Introduction: Polymer Clay TOOTHLESS Necklace

About: I am a passionate industrial designer that loves to create all kind of things. I also studied some semesters of Robotics at the university. I love learning and teaching as well. If you have any questions about…

One of my favorite characters is Toothless, I don't know if it's because of how cute he is and what happens in the movie or if it's because of my love of dragons.

In this instructable, you will find how to make a toothless necklace with polymer clay. Actually, it is not necessary to make it as a necklace, it can also be made a little smaller and used as a bracelet, or glue it on an object that you like a lot like the cover of a notebook.

Supplies

To make this instructable you will need:

  1. Black, red, white, and green polymer clay
  2. Tools for using polymer clay
  3. A printed image of toothless, the size you want to make it
  4. Scissors
  5. Aluminum foil (for embossing)
  6. Embossing tool
  7. Cutter blade
  8. Masking tape
  9. Wire
  10. Pliers

Step 1:

Cut the sheet on which Toothless was printed as shown in the image. Then cut a section of aluminum slightly larger than the toothless' sheet.

Step 2:

Stick the aluminum foil to a glass with masking tape (it can be a glass table) and stick the paper with the Toothless print on top

Step 3:

With the embosser mark the edges of Toothless and details that you consider important.

Step 4:

I started working on the details that had light colors first, since the black polymer clay is very dark and can stain fingers and tools, causing us to stain the lighter other colors later.

With some red polymer clay, I made half of the tail. For this, I put some material on the aluminum, pressed it, and then cut the shape with the cutting blade.

Step 5:

To create the wave texture I used the embossing tool

Step 6:

With a small round cutter, I cut out a small white circle which I made two small holes in, and deformed with a little pressure on the sides.

Step 7:

I then repeated the process I had done with red material and made the other side of the tail black.

Step 8:

For the wings, I first filled the area near the trunk of the body with polymer clay.

Step 9:

I bent wire in the shape of two rings to be able to hang the figure from these.

Step 10:

I put a thin layer of polymer clay on the edge of the wings, and on top of these, I put the wire hoops.

Step 11:

Then I put on another layer of polymer clay and completed the wings, using the embossing tool to give it texture.

Step 12:

I put some polymer clay to create the trunk of the body and pressed it to join the wings. And then I created the legs.

Step 13:

Then I added the tail

Step 14:

Then with a shape similar to a circle and at the same time a triangle, create the head.

Step 15:

Step 16:

For the eyes, I made some holes in the shape I wanted with the embossing tool. I then filled these holes with green polymer clay and added two black lines for the pupils.

Step 17:

I made two small holes for the nose

Step 18:

With a circular cutter, pressing lightly, the texture of scales can be created. (In real life the scales were not so marked, the photo exaggerates the marks I made in real life)

When you like how the figure is, you can bake it according to the instructions of the polymer clay that you have bought. In my case, I baked it for 15 minutes at 300°f.

Step 19:

You can then attach it to a chain by opening the chain in the middle, adding some rings to the ends, and attaching them to the dragon.

If desired, a little clear nail polish can be added to the eyes to add sparkle to them.
