Introduction: Powerful Antioxidant Supplements
These days everyone seems to have cancer. There is too much pollution, radiation, bad food and bad water in our world. Antioxidants are one very powerful way to combat these dangers within our own bodies. These DIY antioxidant supplements are a wonderful last minute gift that truly shows how much you care. Making them with memories of the health of your friend or family as well as best wishes makes them even more potent.
These easy to make powerful antioxidant supplements are modeled on Burmese medicine pills. Turmeric in particular. In Myanmar there are several grades of turmeric, some are especially medicinal and used for specific purposes. One of the things the Burmese use turmeric for is purifying the blood...especially after childbirth. It is mixed with wild forest honey and made into pills which are taken by the woman for at least two weeks after giving birth.
In helping my mother with pancreatic cancer I have come across a lot of information on various cancer-preventatives. One of them is an interesting so-called poor-man's cancer cure -- the molasses (or maple syrup) and baking soda mixture. Molasses is particularly high in minerals and B vitamins which are severely lacking in cancer patients. Cancer cells also love sugar-- but, the baking soda, once inside a cancer cell, breaks it down. The theory is the reason this cure is successful is because when the cancer cells uptake sugar they also uptake whatever is mixed with it
These homemade supplements are based on this theory that our cells love to metabolize sugars. Adding powerful antioxidants to honey is a fast way for our body's cells to uptake the antioxidants. This is a very simple recipe using some of the most powerful antioxidant spices.
Step 1: Mix Your Spices
In this recipe I used approximately:
- 1/2 c turmeric
- 1/4 c cinnamon
- 1/4 c clove
To this is added a pinch of black pepper and chili powder as these spices help the body to absorb the antioxidants even more efficiently.
If you don't have all of these spices just use whichever one you have, if you have some other powerful antioxidant herbs or spices you may want to experiment with adding them as well. The amounts don't really matter.
Step 2: Mix Honey
Use about 1/4 c of raw local honey to start.
Mix it in a medium sized bowl to soften. You may need to put it in a ban-marie to warm it gently (do not use a microwave and don't overheat).
Step 3: Adding the Spices
Add the spices to the honey and mix in bit by bit. As you mix you may find you need to add more honey, add the honey slowly.
It is important not to add too much honey as you need the mixture to be as dry as you can get it. Add more spices until the mixture is like a dough.
Step 4: Roll the Pills
Roll small balls out of the mixture. Be sure your hands are sanitary and dry.
The size of the pills you make will depend on who they are for. If they are for a child or someone who can't handle swallowing pills you can make them smaller. Two or three can be taken at a time.
If the person has no problem taking pills then they can be made larger and this will save time. Rolling out the pills can be time consuming.
Be careful not to get the mixture on anything as the turmeric will stain. Usually I have to wash my hands quite frequently as after about 20 balls my palm is too sticky to form balls.
Step 5: Dry Out Antioxidant Powerballs
Place the balls on a plate or tray so they are not touching each other. Allow to sit in the sun to dry out for a few hours (depending on the intensity of the sun) until they are dry. Use a sharp spatula remove from the tray and place into a bottle.
If you don't have any sun you can put them in a very low oven (150 degrees F) for about 10 to 15 mins to dry out.
Take 2-3 pills every night before bed. (The amount should equal roughly a teaspoon of spices). Take more if you have a lot of radiation.
Counterindications:
People who have gall stones, gastrointestinal ulcers, or obstructed bile ducts should avoid turmeric. Pregnant women should limit their intake as it can stimulate uterine contractions.

Fantastic Instructable! We are actually growing our own turmeric here in Normandie, it is in the kitchen in one of our pallet wood planters and is a quite impressive 1 metre high with beautiful 'banana palm' leaves! I look forward to harvesting it and making your recipe. I have used turmeric and black pepper, combined with brazil nut for selenium mixed in with coconut oil to successfully treat stroke/paralysis in my Sebright hen. The power of good food is amazing just as conversely is the devastating effect of processed junk. Thanks for posting this unusual and thoughtful gift idea. The radiation factor is becoming daily ever more pressing! All the Best, Pavlovafowl aka Sue

How about mixing it with ginger powder?

Yes ginger would be a good addition as well.

Is drying necessary or could you just keep it as a paste and take a teaspoon before bed?

I guess if you wanted to add some B vitamins too it you could always grind up some mushrooms (reishi or something) and add it to them too.

This is a superb example of Hippocratic philosophy. We use turmeric all the time - it is so crazy that, like with quail eggs, these medicines/foods, which have been used for thousands of years in the East, are just now being recognised by the West. Thanks for your inspiring instructable! All the best from France, Organikmechanic

Would Vitamin B12 or complex. Help this mix? From A capsule form it would be tasteless. I have a lot of freinds that are fighting this battle.
