Introduction: Make a Decoupage Picture Frame Gift
Doesn't everyone have the trouble that white picture frames are so boring, and it's expensive to get nice ones?
I needed a nice gift for a family member and being short of money I needed to get something that would fit my limited budget. Earlier in the year I got a great deal from Ikea on a load of picture frames but they are not the kind of thing you would want to give as a gift. I really like decoupage and I haven't really enhanced a picture frame so I though I would give it a go. I am glad I did, I really liked the result and it was received well as a gift. This is how I did it.
Materials Needed:
- Picture frame (Mine came from IKEA)
- PVA Glue (Or Decopatch glue which is more expensive)
- Note: Which ever glue you choose, ensure it's clear drying!
- Decoupage paper, or napkins
- Paint brush
- It might be worth getting a cheap one to do this, it'll end up very sticky.
Step 1: Preperation
Tear your napkin/paper into small-ish squares, and put some glue in a tub. I opted for using some children's paint tubs with 'anti-spill' as I'm quite clumsy. Then remove the glass and other innards, and put them out of the way.
If you think it's needed, give the frame a wipe over with something to clean off greasy stains, or marks. Baby wipes, or a damp cloth will do the job
Step 2: Get Sticking!
Paint a thin layer of glue over the area which you are going to place a bit of the paper. Place the paper over the glue, and then paint glue on top of the paper. Repeat this until your frame is covered and leave it somewhere to dry.
NOTE: Don't cover the entire frame with glue before you start sticking, you get a better finish if you do it bit by bit.
Don't worry if you then notice some parts which you have missed, you can repeat this step even after it's dried.
Once dry, you can give the frame a coat of glue to add extra shine, and to ensure the paper won't come away.
Step 3: Voila!
Pop back in your glass and your photo once it is dry, and there you have it, a pretty photo frame!
This only took me maybe an hour or so to do (excluding drying). Happy Sticking!
