Introduction: Purse Made From Dad's Old Jeans

I made a purse tote from my dad's old jeans that couldn't be worn anymore due to holes worn into them.

Supplies

Here's what's needed for this project!

  • 1 pair of old jeans
  • Scissors
  • Denim thread (I chose the gold color)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Pins
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

Step 1: Cut Off the Cuffs of the Pant Legs

Cut off the cuffs of the pant legs so that you have a raw edge. *See image above*

Step 2: Cut One Pant Leg at the Knee Level

Cut one of the pant legs at the knee level. This is what we'll be using for the body of our purse.

Step 3: Cut Along the "not Pretty Seam"

Cut along the "not pretty seam" to make a flat piece of fabric (this is the seam that doesn't have the gold thread. *See image above*

Step 4: Even Up the Edges of the Pant Leg

If there's excess fabric hanging over the edge, cut it off and even the edges of the pant leg.

Step 5: Cut Off the "pretty Seam" of the Other Pant Leg

Cut along the seam until you get to the crotch area. You'll use this for the strap of the purse.

Step 6: Cut Off the Pant Leg at the Crotch

Cut off the pant leg as high has possible (the crotch area). We're going to use this pant leg as fabric.

Step 7: Cut the Sides of the Purse

Cut two strips 2" from the side and 8" from the bottom. So that you have two 2x8 strips of fabric.

Step 8: Cut the Loops

Cut two loops for attaching your D-rings.

Step 9: Sew on the Loops

Pin on the loops in the middle of the side body on both sides. Once sewn on one side, put through the D-ring, then sew the loop closed. Make the loop as tight as possible so that the D-ring doesn’t move.

Step 10: Sew on the Strap

Sew the strap of the purse on. Make sure you give yourself enough room so that it isn’t too thick for your sewing machine.

Step 11: Sew on the Back Patch

Sew the back patch on two sides and the bottom so that it forms a pocket. *As seen above*

Step 12: You're All Done!!
