Introduction: Quick and Easy Tazer, Make to Look Like a USB Dongle
This is a simple, quick and easy way a to make a which is is meant to look like a usb dongle. Its really easy to make.
Requirments:
Lighter
USB Dongle (Any will do, i used a broken one)
3 x screws
A Hammer
A Screwdriver
Warning!: Anything you do with this is your sole responsibility. I am not responsible for anything you do with this, or any trouble this causes you. Remember, high voltage is dangerouse, it can kill. Do not taze anybody with a pacemaker of anyother mechanic body part, or anybody with weak organs.
Step 1: Disembling the Lighter
Firstly, unscrew your lighter, the part we will be using is the small ignition system, it is designed to make electricity arc and set alite the gas that comes out of the container also in the lighter. But we wont be using it for that.
Step 2: Taking Apart the USB Dongle
Pretty straight forwould, the fixings will probably be diffrent for each type of dongle. The circuit bored you can salvage but the USB end we will need. I also knocked out the plastic parts where lights had been. There where two holes, perfect for threading the two wires through.
Step 3: Mounting the Internals
I used 3 screws, i threaded 2 through the side then layed one screw on the two screws going through, i then layed the sparking mechanism on it., ontop of the sparking button thing i layed the usb top, there was metal on the side on the usb connecter meaning it wouldent come out on the dongle
Step 4: Screw It Up and Your Finished
Screw it up and your finished. Rember be responsible with it!

A better way to do this would be to put a capacitor and a current converter in the body. Attach the leads of the current converter to the USB metal thing. Then you could charge it with a battery and a small transformer. It would allow only one use for every charge but it would output more voltage with lower current.

total waste of time i am gutted i even took the time to look isnt the point of a taser to actually make u feel it !!!!!! sorry mate but this is poor at the moment is there a way to upgrade this

Still looking for the tazer....this isn't one. If it doesn't knock you to the floor, it's not a tazer (simple test).

Tazer's are actually a brand of electroshock weapon, not simply something that shocks you. If it's knocking an enemy to the ground you want, try a baseball bat. This instructable is pretty good, but it is OBVIOUSLY not tailored for self-defense, maybe good enough for a practical joke. So I don't know why you expected a Taser-level device. If you want a Taser, go buy one. Or make a better one yourself. Don't detract from this article.

Tazer is a name brand for a defensive tool/weapon. The title implies that this would be useful in the same situations, and the instructable has nothing in it to say otherwise. If used in a defensive situation, what do YOU see as the result?

This isn't really a tazer - just a sparker. It really wont hurt anyone (try shocking your finger - you can barely feel it). Could be useful for lighting Bunsen burners tho!

Not in this case. There is nothing inside the case other than a friction powered arc ignitor, and nothing connected to the port for it. Also, YOU WILL NOT BLOW ANYTHING UNLESS YOU HOOK THE PART DIRECTLY UP TO THE WALL. I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE.

there are two problems with that theory first the EMF pulse given off by the piezo-electric element in the device is more than enough to yes blow up many
ICs without being within several inches of them especially on the very fine pitch ICs of modern computers (even though the computer has a grounded case it does not help here because of the high frequency and voltage) the second is that if there is a slightly higher resistance on the output terminals then the space between the contacts of the element itself or the space between the element and the USB connector the 50KV or so will be sent directly into the driver ICs and kill them (it makes no difference how small the current is since it is at least equivalent to a static spark which if you have ever noticed antistatic bags which is exactly what the name implies the static can kill the chips!!!)

I've tried. In the case of one of these, the worst that'll likely happen is that you'll end up with a single non-working port until you restart the computer; I've done this. It takes much more to do permanent damage to anything other than parts RAM or the parts directly connected to those parts.

what you are not seeing is that the small fraction of the EMF pulse is creating a small amount of arcing that is taking place between the pads of the USB driver IC that pulse does two things it trips a small "fuse" (that can be reset by the BIOS) it also creates such a noisy line to the northbridge that it to shuts down that drive and usually 2 ports (the ports are usually distributed on the front and back of the computer to reduce EMF interference) also the ram is most likely to be one of the most resistant chips to be affected by EMF since the modern dynamic RAM of all computers is no more then just a set of capacitors also if you have the equipment try it out with any digital IC (i.e. 40XX ,41XX,45XX or 74XX ) all you need is some wire a 10K ohm resistor and a led connect the resistor to V+ and the other end to the anode of the led connect the cathode to the pin you want to test if the pin is a logic zero the led will turn on. try this before and after you zap the chip with the piezo element if you want to go further try it with a microcontroller or something of that sort you should also see they come in ANTISTATIC BAGS!!!

In my case, the ports aren't distributed that way. They DO connect to the same board, but in separate sections. Like I said, not permanent damage to anything unless you hook it up to the RAM and zap it. I was talking about the cards that you find in a laptop, not a desktop.

well in your case all that is effecting the driver IC is the EMF pulse but if the air pressure or tempeture or humidity or viscosity or pollution ratios or some other factor changes the air will become less resistant and blow the IC also like I said before the dynamic RAM of modern computers is unaffected by most EMF interference trust me I design these things and you must create them in a way to reduce EMF pulses seriously go and test it out go zap a CMOS IC or even the insides of your computer (backup your data first) you will see it will kill them there is a reason all ICs come in antistatic metal coated plastic bags to keep out static and that's all this is, it is a static spark.
