Introduction: Record Clock
"Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way…"
Time - Pink Floyd
I had been thinking of creating a clock from Pink Floyd's the 'Dark Side of the Moon' album as it features the classic song 'time'. But then I had another think and used a record I didn't want to play any more instead.
Making a clock using a record is an amazingly simple project to do and makes for an excellent gift. I gave the one I made to a friend who was about to spend $50 on buying a living room clock.
Supplies
- Record - Preferably one you don't want to listen to any more or you can always buy a cheap one from a charity store.
- Clock mechanism and hands - I purchased this one on AliExpress for less than $10.
Step 1: Enlarge Hole for Spindle
Measure the clock's mechanism shaft and enlarge the hole in the record so it will fit through.
Step 2: Secure Clock Mechanism
Secure the clock mechanism to the record using supplied washer and nut.
Step 3: Attach the Hands
Attach the hands which came with the clock mechanism. They just pushed on.
The clock mechanism didn't have a hook on the back to hang it. I used some duct tape and attached a loop, so it could hang on a hook. Blue-tac can also be used to attach the clock to a wall.
