Introduction: Recycled Broken Glass Lamp

About: I'm a Mechanical Engineer who has been a part of this community for over 10 years! My interests have evolved over time, and now center around 3D printing.

This slideshow shows a really old project of mine, but I wanted to upload it.  I made a couple broken glass lamps, although only the better looking one is shown in the first picture.

The process of making this was simple, but fairly time consuming.  Some LEDs were paired with a 9-volt wall adapter to be the light source.  After the LEDs were soldered together and functional, I smashed some beer and wine bottles to get the broken glass (recycling, yay!).  The neck was cut off of a glass bottle using a Dremel rotary tool and a cutting disk, and some light tapping with a rubber mallet was enough to break the glass along the score.  The LEDs were placed into the bottle and broken glass added.  The hole in the top of the wine bottle was sealed with a combination of layers of electrical tape and hot glue.  A base made out of PVC pipe or a salvaged metal piece was added to house the 9-volt adapter and to mount a switch on.
