Introduction: Remove Broken Phone Jack - Without Opening Your Device

About: Hobbyist in woodworking, metalworking and music. Basic knowledge in electronics.

Got my brand new guitar modelling device - but when connecting it to my setup, I figured out the phone jack is broken :(

I didn't wanna open the device (to avoid avoiding warranty :D) - so I took my flashlight and looked into the socket. I figured out it wouldn't help opening the device as the sockets are capsuled on the inside.

Step 1: ...tools You Need

So I wondered if my idea might work.
What I needed:

-a flashlight to see what's happening inside the socket

-a stick of hotglue

-shrinking hose

-a lighter

-small screwdriver (or something else to push away the contacts)

First I figured out how I could use the broken shaft of my broken phone jack as an guide.

So I carefully plugged it back into the socket, while I used a small screwdriver to push away the contacts inside the socket to not damage them.
So now this is what I call our guide - and every time we remove out hotglue, the shaft will get out of the socket with it. Clean it carefulls (remoce the hotglue-residues) before you use it, again!

Now I added some shrinking hose around the end of my hotglue. This makes it more reliable and when the glue is hot, it won't stick to the inside of my socket.

Step 2: Make the Hotglue Hot and Rescue Your Device ;)

Now I used the lighter to make only the tip of my prepared hotgluestick hot.
Don't let it melt too much. It mustn't drop!

Then quickly push the hotgluestick through our guide onto the broken part of the phone jack.

Wait 10 seconds to cool it down to get a proper strength back on the hotgluestick's tip.
And now pull it carefully.

I had to repeat the whole process for two times, as I first removed the insulating plastic ring and on the second run I removed the tip of my phone jack.

Works like a charme ;)
My new effect device works again and I didn't void the warranty!
