Intro: Remove Spyware Guard 2008

Spyware Guard 2008 is a virus that is supposed to look like an anti spyware / anti virus application. However IT IS NOT AN ANTI VIRUS. IT IS A VIRUS. IT WILL CAUSE YOUR COMPUTER TO FREEZE AND BE VERY SLOW. In this instructable I will show you how to remove it from your computer.

STEP 1: What You Need

Here is a list of the software you will need to remove it:

An anti virus application, I use Sympatico Security Manager but if you are looking for something free try AVG from : http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=mncol

STEP 2: Close and Disable

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to get to the windows task manager. Click on the 'Processes" Tab. End the process of "spywareguard.exe". Next click start, run, and type "msconfig" Click on the "Startup" tab desable anything in the folder of " C:\ Program Files\Spyware Guard 2008". It will ask you if you want to reboot your computer, click "Restart"

STEP 3: Removing Some Files

When the Computer restarts click Start then search. Click all files and folders. Search for the folder" Spyware Guard 2008" delete all the instances of that folder. Open My Computer, Click on the "C" Drive, Select the "windows" folder and select search. Search for the following files:

reged.exe
spoolsystem.exe
sys.com
syscert.exe
sysexplorer.exe
vmreg.dll

Delete all of these files. Then empty the recycling bin.

STEP 4: Delete the Bad Code

Go to my computer, C:\ ,Program Files then open the folder "Spyware Guard 2008" there will be .exe files, .vbe and .cfg files. Open the .vbe files with Notepad. To do so right click it and hit properties. Tell it that you want to open it with notepad. Click Apply then OK. You may have the click the .vbe icons. When you do so notepad will open showing the virus codes. Click edit, select all then press DELETE. Next click file then save. (the page should be blank) Close note pad. Do this with all the .vbe and .cfg files. Next right click the EXE files ( I belive they're called "uninstall" and "spywareguard2008") and select delete with File ASSASSIN. Close Windows Explorer and empty the recycling bin.

STEP 5: Use Advanced System Care

Run advanced system care and scan for problems. Don't disable anything just click "Scan Now". ( Click on Maintain Windows on top of the word care). This will preform a Registry Fix, Spyware Scan, Privacy Sweep, and a disk cleanup. If you are asked to create any backups click "yes". When the scan is done click repair. Close advanced system care.

STEP 6: Use a Anti-Virus

Launch your anti-virus and scan for viruses. Remove them if you can (as long as they are not important system files) if you can't they will be quarantined.

STEP 7: Clear Internet Data

In Firefox click "Tools" then "Clear Private Data" Clear everything. Empty the recycling bin for the final time.

STEP 8: Addional Stuff

You could also run a disk cleanup and a disk defrag. Click 'Start" All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup to run a disk cleanup (no duh:)) and Disk Defragmenter to defrag.

STEP 9: The End...at Last

Restart the PC (it might be a little slow shutting down, you have changed a lot of settings) and then your PC should be back to normal. Hope this works for you... it worked for me.

i tried to do the adress for spyware guard 2008, it lead me to an advertising filled site must be offline (so much for that!!!)

AVG has a glitch-thingie
it will fing any fake alert and tell you instantly, telling you its a virus, if you can (or want to) change the anti-virus to A-Squared, it is much better (by emsisoft)

what is the download lik(S) for Spyware Guard 2008 so that YDL can make a removal tool for it or an update file for C:\Program Files\YDL antivirus\Removal files\

Dude, my cousin has this one virus that is almost un-deletable! it disables Spybot, Adaware, and Norton! still have to get it out of his system...

It also disabled my anti-virus (Sympatico Security Manager) until I removed Spyware Guard 2008

Switch to LINUX and be ride of 98% of all Viruses on the internet no mater where you go online! Fedora 10 with over 1400 programs.. The OS and all the programs are only cost you is a internet connection and a disc cd or dvd. Dose Bill Gates offer any thing like that for FREE ( NO) and the programs that come with linux are better then then the Microsoft programs TUX POWER!

When Linux runs windows apps without a special program to do it, then most people would consider it. Otherwise you're preachin to the choir.

with all the FREE open source apps that are better then ANY and All windows apps who in there right mind would want to spend $100s of dollars on apps that have many security holes like Microsoft products! remember the effect of code red or nimba, the love you Virus and the good old one called junk it . All of those big virus names ate up many of windows boxes. Not a single Linux box was harmed! oh and how many Service Packs needs to be down loaded for All the windows operating systems HUMMM! makes a lot seance to to a morn to stick with Microsoft even in these days of financial depression. I thought there was more intelligent life in this site

you have not been on line vary long or just lucky that you have not had them yet. I have fixed 1000 windows boxes from them and other nasty things like them. I have introduced Linux all my clients . Once they see some of what it has and can do 7 out of 10 want it . yet there are still those that are don't have the intellect to blow there own nose let alone know how to use Linux. I see where you are in that pool. There is help for you if you want it

I've been online since before the internet was conceived, starting out running bulletin board systems. DOS was king. I could run circles around any GUI OS in a DOS environment. Its true, though, the GUI OS was made for the less sophisticated user, and the more it does for you, the less sophisticated the users become. Trying to reverse that is like trying to make 6th graders learn advanced calculus. Won't happen. I would love to see it happen, but it won't. Face it. The world isn't going to embrace any form of linux until it can run the mainstream software that everyone likes, under the current mainstream OS. I have the alternatives as well as the expensive stuff, which I bought. 99 out of 100 times I'll use the 'bought' over the alternative stuff. Why? Its easier to finish a project and not have to deal with the minor 'conversion' tweaks that I've inevitably found in using two different pieces of software, especially when the SOP calls for a certain format (that's industry standard stuff, and even applies to the rules when dealing with FDA concerns in company standards and guidelines). When ReactOS finally hits the scene out of apha, I'll be looking to move on, and so will others, I'll bet. BUT, I'm not going to argue with you anymore about this as it is useless to try to present a point of view with you, other than your own. Its not the place to do it. We just disagree.

your view points are well taken a look at. As much as we might dis agree there is some things that we do agree on. your last comment over three lines with more body then just puffs of smoke. I got what I was trying to get out of ya. argument not was intended , it did make a vessel . ReactOS has potential to bridge the gaps between both worlds. as far as main stream standers there are hands bound by money as well as the laziness to click on another box or link to select a extinction format. lol it still boles down to that same old race like that of Batea and VHS. I do agree the bells and whistles are nice but money just to hard to get and throw on them when there is free ways to do the same job done. I am open minded to windows but I refuse to by in to there ways of doing things in the realm of computer business and technology

I use three different windows: Vista, cause I have to. (I play a freakin' lot of games), XP Pro, and XP with just enough to network and game. It holds a 300meg place on the HD, even though its a Terabyte drive and it has 4G ram. People don't want to strip it or ask about stripping it down(services, etc.) to get rid of the bloat. It runs screamingly fast compared to the other two, and I can still word process and run AutoCAD very well. Later.... maybe in the forums, eh?
