Introduction: Restaurant Lifehack - Instant Flower Valentine
This cheesy and spontaneous "lifehack" will definitely make someones day, and could be the perfect way to break the ice.
Step 1: Watch the Video!
Step 2: Making a Paper Napkin Rose
They say a rose is a symbol of true love, so here's a cheesy little trick for valentines, that might help you find it!
For this project, all you're going to need is a single serviette.
Open it flat on a table, then fold one of the edges back about an inch and a half from the top.
Now simply flip it over, and place one of your thumbs on the corner behind the strip.
Now roll the whole thing around the outside of your thumb, until it forms a tube, as seen in the picture.
Double check that you've rolled it the right way by checking to make sure the folded flap is on the outside.
Step 3: Stem and Leaf
When your tube is formed, try pinching it off just below the flap, and gently twist, until it starts tightening up.
This will begin forming the stem just below, what is going to become, the flower's head.
Now keep twisting it down another inch or two to form a longer stem, then take one of the corners at the bottom, and fold it up along the side.
You should be able to see how this corner is forming a little leaf.
Continue twisting the stem down the rest of the way, and it should be starting to resemble a real flower.
But the flower head doesn't look very convincing yet. We'll fix that in the next step.
Step 4: Flower Forming
To fluff the flower petals, simply reach inside and twist the inner folds around until it looks incredible.
The flap on the outside can be gently pulled up around the rose head to make a little decorative hood, and it's done!
Play with it until it looks just the way you like it. Every flower will be slightly different and have it's own characteristics.
Step 5: Fragrence
So there you have it! You've just made an instant white rose, to impress somebody special.
Now check this out. If you try spraying a little perfume or cologne on the flower head, it will smell good too.
Brown paper roses work as well, and I gave one of these to the girl of my dreams 7 years ago. Now we're married, and have 3 kids.
Step 6: Extra Ideas
By the way, you don't even have to have a napkin.
I made one with a hamburger wrapper. How awesome is that?
Well now you can turn a humble eating accessory, into a clever expression, of your affection.

I do find it a little ironic. If a less popular user had made this, it would simply have been another addition to the site. However, when Grant Thompson makes it, of course it's featured.

Ironic really? Isint that how it works,...become really good at something, people start to notice you and continue to pay attention to you because you make good stuff. The fact that you know and mention his name when he isint putting it easily out there, shows he obviously made in impression on you.

Well, I do love Grant's videos, and he has made an impression on me. And of course I understand that people would pay attention to him because he makes good stuff. However, I'm simply pointing out that the only reason this was featured is because he's so well known. If I had made this, I honestly do not believe that would have happened.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm sure that if you put the work into making a detailed article and included many pictures and pages, it would be featured. Best of luck!

You're welcome Grant. I've really enjoyed this, and I voted in both contests. It just bothers me that so many things are featured simply because a popular user makes them. That said, you obviously ujjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

I'm so sorry about that. My cat walked across my computer.
What I meant to say was: That said, you obviously put a tremendous amount of work into making this, and I genuinely hope it does well.

Cats have a purpose of making working on the computer immensely hard

A rose is a sweet gesture but if you really want to make a good impression the old fashioned way I suggest cash money? I'm talking about the folding kind of course and a little known origami trick. Has anyone ever seen how to make a ring from a $20 dollar bill? If anyone has a video of that, please share the link for it?

Oh man, I remember when we used to make those out of dollar bills back in junior high which was...ummmm.... (damn I'm getting old...:) 32 years ago? lol. ...now I'm gonna have to dig out some money :)

Foreign exchange student got me interested in origami some time back in high school and when I was in the Navy I learned pretty quickly about strippers and how much a little extra effort rather than stuffing a bill in her g-string, fold her a ring ($20) would make a private lap dance more interesting.

I got one of these gave to me one night. It fit discretely in my pocket and the extra effort of making it as I watched, not knowing what he was doing was cool, too. I definitely like it better than a bought one.
