Intro: Retro TV Cat Bed

As you can see based on my instructables, my girlfriend loves cat beds. This is my latest creation with an old tv I found.

STEP 1: Find Tv

First you need to find an old tv. I found mine for $30 on Kijiji. You might be able to find one on Craigslist or eBay, or an antique shop.

STEP 2: Dissassemble

IMPORTANT: DISCHARGE TV FIRST.

Then take apart entire tv with a screwdriver and cut all the wiring with scissors. You might need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull some clips off.

STEP 3: Clean and Paint

Once you have the tv all apart, throw away everything you don't need and keep everything else (dials, screws, antenna for looks). If you want to paint the tv you should clean the plastic housing with soap and water. Once it's all cleaned up, spray the tv outside with plastic spray paint. I painted the tv all red first. When the red dried I tape over all the red I wanted to keep and spray painted the part that surrounds the tube black.

STEP 4: Assemble

After you sprayed a few coats of paint and let it dry you can put the tv and dials back together. At this point I spray painted the inside blue being very careful not to get any on the red or black. Make sure there are no sharp parts that your cat could hurt itself on. I used a dremel and sanded down a few sharp points sticking out of the dials on the inside. Fold a little blanket inside and you're finished! Hope you enjoyed it. Leave comments and ideas for more projects!

Attention! Do NOT follow the instructions to do this. You risk injury or death by doing so. CRT displays can hold onto many thousands of volts, for years, unplugged. If they are not properly discharged first, opening them up without proper expertise and cutting wires is asking to be electrocuted. This needs to be taken down. Opening a CRT if you do not know what you are doing is EXTREMELY dangerous.
Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up. I'll remove it.
My sister has a cat and her b-say is coming up!!
