Intro: Ribbon Rings

When I think of ribbons, I also think of the word cute. I don't know why, I just do I guess :) So, how better to make simple, cute rings as with ribbon!! What I like about these rings is that they are so fast to make and can be made with stuff you have laying around anyway (at least, stuff that I have laying around).

I got the idea of these rings when I was making a memory wire bracelet with a set ( it contained everything needed to make a bracelet) I got for Christmas. The bag was closed using a ribbon- the black checkered one. So, I took my glue and my scissors and made the ring :) I'm really happy with how it turned out and surprised with how sturdy the glue makes the rings. I hope you like it as well!

STEP 1: Materials

To make a ribbon ring, you will need the following:

  • ribbon
  • round object matching the size of your finger/mandrel
  • scissors
  • glue

STEP 2: Wrapping the Ribbon

Start by putting your ribbon around your mandrel/round object. At the point where the ribbon meets itself, add glue and glue the ribbon as tight to the round object as possible. If you keep it tight to the round object, the glue will make the ring round when it has dried. Repeat putting a bit of glue (you can better use too much glue as not enough) and wrapping the ribbon further. How long you want to wrap it is your decision, just decide how thick you want your ring to be.

STEP 3: Ending the Ring

To end the ring, use your scissors to make a straight, smooth cut to end the ribbon. Add glue to the end and put it on the other part of the ring. Use your thumb to hold down the end until the glue has dried a bit more. When it has, apply an extra bit of glue to the connection of the ring and the ending of the ribbon. Wait for the glue to dry completely.

To get the ring off the round object once the glue has dried, you can use your fingernails as shown in the picture. Once it's not glued to the object any more, you can just remove it.

STEP 4: Done!

And that's all!

I hope you liked this instructable and will try it yourself, if you do you can post an awesome 'I made it!' comment in the comment section below :D.

How cute!! I've been away from instructables for a day and missed so many great things!

Thank you Linda! Yes, there's always so much going on!!

You could use epoxy, it'd be harder, and I you could sand it down to the shape you want! Just a thought ^_^

I haven't used epoxy before, but I think it could work :)

Could we use tread ?

I'm not sure about just using thread, if you want to make a ring using thread you might be interested in this https://www.instructables.com/id/Macrame-rings/ or in this https://www.instructables.com/id/Braided-rings/
