This fact is not all that surprising to us. From the get go Instructables started to fill with rideable contraptions of every variety. While the official story states that Instructables was founded by a bunch of guys from MIT, etcetera... the alternate story is that the Instructables was founded by an ingenious group of ragtag surfers, skaters and cyclists.
Given this, it should be entirely unsurprising to learn that some of the first Instructables ever posted included a series of impressive and mildly dangerous creations for moving very fast, such as a tow-in skateboard, a plywood kiteboard and a wobble bike (which takes some getting used to).
The stage was set early for backyard hot rods, air-powered bicycles, DIY electric vehicles, kite-powered land cruisers, tall bikes, mini bikes, trash-powered cars, pedaled-powered segways, snail cars, self-driving beds, jet powered skateboards, homemade paramotors, remote control electric wheelchairs, amphibious couch bikes, and whatnot. This list could go on and on. All of the unique ways people on Instructables have figured out how to move themselves around with speed and style never ceases to astonish.
Below you will find an extensive, but by no means exhaustive, list of some of the amazing rides our authors have created over the last 20 years. Hopefully this will inspire you to make one of your own.
