Introduction: Rubik's Time, a Rubik's Clock Modification

This looks like an ordinary Rubik's Clock but it actually tells the time! Each individual clock face tells the hour accurately and precisely. I think this is a great clock for people who like puzzles.

Supplies

  1. A Rubik's clock (I used one made by Shengshou).
  2. A clock motor
  3. Super glue
  4. A shaft about 1.5mm thick
  5. Drill
  6. Screwdriver
  7. Pointy nose pliers
  8. Hacksaw
  9. File

Step 1: Modify the Motor

Disassemble the clock motor (there are usually screws on the front). Get the cogs that are attached to the hands and cut them all shorter. Leave the cog that attaches to the hour hand about a cm longer than the other two. Then reassemble the motor.

Step 2: Modify the Clock

Disassemble the clock by unscrewing the four screws on one side of it. Take out the paper parts and then unscrew the two screws holding the black inner casing together. Pull it apart and put all the springs and little clocks to one side. On both the black parts you'll notice four bumps around the centre hole. File these off on both sides. Also remove the metal rings around the small holes. They can be easily pried off with a flat blade screwdriver.

Step 3: More Modifying

Drill a hole big enough for the shaft of the clock motor to fit through, in the middle of one of the clear parts. Then get the clock pins and pull the caps off one end of all of them. Then get a shaft the same width as the holes in the middles of the little clocks, and cut it a bit longer than the distance between two little clocks when the clock is assembled (it doesn't matter if it's a bit too long or too short).

Step 4: Assemble the Clock

Put one of the black parts inside the clear part with the hole. Then glue the clock motor onto the back with the shaft though the hole. Then glue one of the little clocks onto the clock motor shaft, and glue the shaft (that you cut in the last step) in the hole, and glue another little clock on the other end. Then assemble the clock as normal (refer to pictures).

Step 5: Use It!

Set the clock to the right time and insert a battery. Then put it wherever you want it! I hope you liked my instructable and if you have any questions leave them in the comments. Happy making!
