Introduction: S7-71 Blackbird

This instructable was created in fulfillment of the project requirement of the Makecourse at the University of South Florida (www.makecourse.com).

I created the SR-71 Blackbird of approximately 15 to 20 3D-printed pieces. To model the plane I used the CAD program SolidWorks and created a 3D-version to best present the pieces that would later interact with one another or create the shell.

The moving pasts consisted of four moving servos. Two connected to the back lading gear doors and two to the front. While each moved a door separately, the code created for them allowed them to open and close simultaneously.

Additionally a red LED was used in the front cockpit to simulated the lights turning on and off in a real plane.

All devices were controlled by a push button which acted like a switch that when pushed would activate the doors to open and LED to turn off. When released the everything would return to their original status.
