Introduction: Arduino: the SHY BOX
This is a BOX and it just is a little bit shy.
You too can make a BOX that is shy.
Learn how to make it in the following instructable.
Step 1: Recources
You need the following items to make your very own shy box:
- Arduino UNO
- Breadboard
- Breadboard cables
- 1x servo
- 1x ultrasonic sensor (HC- SR04)
- 2x resistor 220Ω
- 4mm mdf
- laser cutter
Step 2: The Circuit
Attach all your parts to the arduino as shown on the images
Step 3: The Code
Without the code your box will just be a box.
You could use it to store some stuff.
Or you can download and use this code to make it awesome.
Your choice.
Step 4: The Box
You can use any kind of box to make a SHY BOX but if you want to make it like I did you can get the schematics to laser cut it here.
If you want to make your own box. The dimensions I used are:
L - 200mm
W - 80mm
H - 80mm
Step 5: The Hinge
I made the mistake to attach the cover after I glued the box and glued the servo in place. I was lucky to have enough room to place the hinge but I suggest you add the lid before you place the servo
Step 6: The Servo Extension
I made an extension of the connection piece that connects to the servo by chopping away some wood and gluing it together with super glue.
The servo is attached to a piece of wood with a rubber band. The piece of wood is then glued to the inside of the box
Step 7: The Placement
Now that you have the servo in place, you can place all the parts in the box.
I didn't glue any of the parts in place, instead I taped all the parts to the box
Do make sure that the cables that are attached to the LED's are long enough or else the box might be unable to open properly.
Step 8: The Result
congratulations!!
You now have you very own SHY BOX

That’s the lifting table- 3d printed, intended to lift the present and going down again.
Question 3 years ago on Introduction
Hi,
I thought cool project and wanted to push it a little further, as a gift showing/hiding box.
Unfortunately the servo is just ticking (doing tiny moves back and forth)
Any idea why that’s happening?
