Introduction: SIMPLE RC AIRBOAT V0.1

Hey everyone! It's us back with yet another instructable! :D

We will be making an RC AIRBOAT with common household materials.

We hope you like this one! Let's get right to it.

Step 1: HARDWARE REQUIRED

We'll also need some basic geometrical instruments, drafting tools and adhesives.

Step 2: LET'S MAKE THE MOTOR MOUNT

1) Start with a blank piece of cardboard.

2) Mark the cutouts according to the dimensions.

3) Make the cuts and creases.

4) Glue up the edges and faces with strong adhesives.

5) Make the holes for the motor mount.

NOTE: DOTTED LINES = FULL CUT | NORMAL LINES = CREASE CUT

Step 3: LET'S MAKE THE RUDDER

1) Start with a blank piece of cardboard.

2) Mark the cutouts according to the dimensions.

3) Make the cuts.

4) Stick a two-point servo horn to a popsicle stick.

5) Make slits in the rudders and pass the sticks through them.

NOTE: CUT ALONG THE DOTTED LINE

Step 4: LET'S PREPARE THE LID

1) Make a hole of sufficient diameter to allow the cables and the antenna to pass through with just the right clearance.

2) Mark the servo location.

3) Mark the motor mount location.

4) Stick the servo to the lid with hot glue or any other strong adhesive of your choice.

5) Pass the servo cable through the hole.

6) Stick the motor mount to the lid.

Step 5: LET'S PREPARE THE CONTAINER

1) Stick a scrap piece of cardboard to the container near the stern (rear) end.

This will serve as our battery mount.

2) Pass a velcro strap through it.

3) Stick a piece of velcro to the container near the bow (front) end.

This will hold our receiver in place.

Step 6: MOUNT THE POWER PACK AND CONTROL SURFACES

1) Use appropriate nuts, bolts and washers to secure the motor in place. Use additional washers on the bottom side of the motor mount to provide some down thrust to the system.

2) Mount the propeller and ensure that the numbers on the propeller point away from you when looking at the boat from its rear end.

3) Center the servo and mount the rudder on it.

4) Pass the motor's cables through the previously made hole.

Step 7: THE ELECTRONICS

1) Mount the battery and the receiver.

2) Connect the motor's cables to the ESC.

3) Connect the ESC's signal cable to channel 3 on the receiver.

4) Connect the servo motor to channel 1 on the receiver.

5) Connect the voltage checker to the LiPo battery pack.

6) Turn on the transmitter and power up the boat!

Step 8: ENJOY YOUR CREATION!

Pass the antenna through the hole and close up the box.

Test the throttle and rudder response and the centre of gravity.

It is advised to keep the boat a bit stern heavy to compensate for the down thrust provided by the propeller which will tend to dip the bow end.

As the swimming pool in our community is closed and we aren't allowed to step out of our house, we could only test out the boat in a sink full of water.
