A Schultüte

("school cone"), also known as a Zuckertüte ("sugar cone") in some parts of Germany, is a large cone-shaped container made of paper, cardboard, or plastic, filled with toys, chocolate, candies/sweets, school supplies, and various other special treats. The cone is given to children to make them less anxious on their first day of school, but could be adapted for a whole range of celebrations!!

Supplies

Sheets of Card - 11 pieces of A4 card, colour of your choice or a large square of wallpaper

A sheet of tissue paper to match or contrast with the card colours Pen/pencil Glue stick Scissors String/yarn the length of the shortest side of the card Sticky tape Ribbon

Step 1: Gather Your Suplies

Step 2: Making the Cone

Take 11 sheets of coloured card and lay them in a pattern - it will become obvious why you don't need the final corner filled! Glue the sheets together overlapping them slightly. Then leave to dry for a couple of hours. For added strength, you can sticky tape over the seams on what will become the inside.

Step 3: Drawing the Cutting Line

Knot a piece of string or yarn to a pencil, fairly close to the point. Cut the yarn so that it is the length of 3 lengths of the card. Press down hard on the end not attached to the pencil in the corner opposite the 'missing' card. Sweep the pencil from one side of the card to the other in an arc.

Step 4: Cutting the Cone Shape

Cut along this line and discard the excess.

Step 5: Forming the Cone

Put plenty of glue along one of the longer sides and roll the card into a cone. Press down hard inside the cone and place a book in it to press down on the glued seam. Leave until dry.

Step 6: Adding the Tissue Top.

Glue tissue paper just inside the cone with most of the tissue coming out of the top.

Step 7: Filling the Cone.

Fill the cone with a selection of candies, pens, pencils, pencil case, small toys and other suitable treats. For a birthday you could fill it with socks, candles, candy, scarf, gloves etc.

Step 8: Completing the Presentation.

Glue the sides of the tissue to form a tube.

Step 9: Adding the Bow.

Draw the top of the tissue together with an oversized bow to hide the contents until the cone is opened.

Step 10: Ta Da
