Introduction: Scrap Wood IPhone Holder

I've always wanted a phone holder for many reasons. For example, I can put my phone on it and watch YouTube, or scroll through Instructables. It also features a hole at the bottom through which you can charge your phone!

Supplies

Supplies needed:

  • A scrap bit of wood around 15cm x 20cm (I used half centimeter plywood)
  • A power drill
  • A coping saw
  • Clamps
  • A half-centimeter chisel (mine is made out of an old nailgun nail)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • 3/8 inch drill bit
  • Hammer (for chisel)
  • Sandpaper (optional)

Step 1: Draw the Lines

First off, get a bit of wood from your scrap pile. If your piece of wood has markings or cuts, draw your dimensions around them. For the big piece of mine, I used a 5 cm x 16cm scrap of half cm thick plywood. Since I'm using half cm wood, my notch will be half cm wide and 27 mm long. My notch is 34 mm down the wood. For the small bit, I used an 11.5cm x 51mm scrap of half cm thick plywood. Again, the notch is half a cm wide and 23mm long. The notch is 3.5cm down the wood.

Step 2: Cut the Wood

Clamp your wood into a vise or use some clamps. Cut along the lines being conscious of the fact that thin wood like this can be easily snapped. Save the line at the end of the notch for chiseling.

Step 3: Chisel the Notches

Get your half-centimeter chisel out and chisel at the line. If needed, file the wood to become a level surface.

Step 4: Drill the Hole

Fetch your 3/8 inch drill bit and drill halfway in, right in front of the notch. You might want to use an awl to start your hole.

Step 5: Sand (optinal)

If your wood is dirty and has chalk on it, sand it down with fine-grit sandpaper. This will also help manage the tear-out.

Step 6: You Finsihed!

You know have a phone charging stand! Good job!
