Introduction: Sea Glass Drift Wood Ornaments

This fun and easy craft is the perfect Christmas tree decoration. They also make great presents! Just six easy steps and your ornaments are ready to go.

Step 1: Materials

The materials needed for this project are:

  • Drill
  • Saw
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Sandpaper
  • Pencil
  • 2 Pieces of String (1 foot each) (I like to use hemp)
  • Driftwood (or any wood is fine)
  • and Sea Glass

I am using hand-picked surf-tumbled sea glass for my ornaments. I went through my stash until I found pieces to make a picture. If you don't have the correct shapes, normal pieces of sea glass look fine as well.

Step 2: Cutting

For this step, draw three parallel lines on the wood about 3 inches each. This is where the wood will be cut. You can make the pieces of wood any thickness you want, but I am doing them about 1/4 inch each.

Once you cut the wood, you should have two slabs like the ones in the picture.

Step 3: Sanding

Sand the pieces so that they are nice and smooth. The finished product should look like the picture.

Step 4: Drilling

For this step, drill a hole near the top of each piece of wood. Drill each hole just big enough so that the string can fit through when it is doubled up.

Step 5: Stringing

To string the pieces of wood, first double up each piece of string and tie the ends together. Then, push the rounded ends of the string into the holes, and pull the tied ends through the rounded ends to make a slip knot. Pull tight.

Step 6: Gluing and Finishing

The final step! To finish your ornaments, glue the sea glass on the wood with the hot glue gun. I hope you have fun making these ornaments. Merry Christmas!!!
