Introduction: Secret Compartment Frame

Here is how to make your very own secret compartment frame.

Supplies

MDF scraps

2 x 2 scraps

2 in and 3/4 in Screws

Kreg Jig

Table saw

Wood glue

Acrylic Paint and paintbrush

Optional:

Chalkboard paint, a photo, piece of artwork, or cork board

Command hooks

Mini clothespins

Step 1: Cut the Wood

First cut your 2x2 so that you have 2 10.5 in pieces and 2 17.5 inch pieces.

Next, using a table saw, cut a groove with 1/4 in depth in all four 2x2's.

Cut your MDF piece to be 10 7/8 in by 15 1/8 in.

For the backing you will need another piece of MDF that is 13 in by 17 1/4 in.

Step 2: Glue

Place wood glue in the top groove, then place the MDF piece in.

Make sure that the MDF is centered.

Step 3: Painting

This step is optional.

Paint your 2x2's and MDF using acrylic paint.

For the front piece of MDF, I used chalkboard paint, but you could also make this a frame for a photo, piece of artwork, or cork board. Which you could place on top of the MDF.

Step 4: Putting It Together

Using a Kreg Jig, drill holes into the two side pieces, making sure that they are opposite.

Then, screw the two sides to the bottom piece using 2 in screws.

Test and make sure that the MDF can slide up through the sides. (If you are having trouble getting this to work, you can use some bar soap on the sides of the MDF to help it slide easier.)

Center the back piece on the back of the frame, and drill holes around, making sure not to drill into the top piece. screw the back on using 3/4 in screws.

Step 5: The Inside

This step is optional.

On the inside I used command hooks to hang things like necklaces or keys from, and small clothespins for money, tickets, or pictures.

Step 6: You're Done!

You now have your very own secret compartment frame.
