Introduction: Shield Kite
The original design of this kite is by my friends Sam and Cari King of Washington State. I modified it to be the shape of a police badge. The graphics are from the side of a police car I photographed in China earlier this year, which I thought would look good as a kite.

I'm curious about how you got the image on the sail. It doesn't look appliqued.

It's reverse appliqued. I start with the base layer of fabric (blue in this case), and project the artwork onto it with an overhead projector. Then I drew the lines on with a chalk pencil. I sandwich together the other colors (red, orange, yellow, white) with spray adhesive, sew along the lines, then cut away the extra fabric with embroidery scissors.
For those who don't sew, Design Master spray paint works very well on ripstop nylon too.
