Introduction: Decorative Wind Generator

About: I do not intend to copy anything, not imitate anyone. I like to do new things, different and original works.

The wind generator I present on this page is very easy to build. Using an old washing machine, a telescopic metal anchor and a piece of pvc tube, I made a very safe machine with a spectacular look capable of facing strong winds and even producing some energy ...

The truth is that this homemade gadget is intended only to light a lamp and eventually charge a small battery but its main purpose is decorative as I applied it reflectors that at night when some light hits on the moving blades or even during the day with the sunshine itself, these reflectors shine with golden sparks, which makes the machine look very attractive. If it is at a point where the light from cars hits this machine has a surprising effect.

Step 1: Material Used in the Construction of This Wind Generator:

Drum of the washing machine

The main parts have been removed from this washing machine drum.

Drum barrel / shaft and bearing block

Pulley and belt of washing machine

A car radiator engine.

Pieces of PVC pipes.

Part of a telescopic construction strut, adapted for the wind generator

A small white pvc board for the orienter.

Step 2: How I Did the Job

I started by making a pillar with cement and iron using a PVC tube and also the metal tube on the inside of the anchor, which was embedded in the wider tube, which was also filled with cement.

I painted the pillar or tower of the weather vane with white enamel paint.

I made the blades, cutting the pvc tube.

After the trimmed blades, I smoothed the cuts with the grinder.

Then I put reflective material on the blades and painted them with white spray paint. The blades were beautiful and sturdy, as the tube walls were about a cm thick.

I applied the bearing block to the base of the metal brace, using two metal clamps and four screws.

Then I placed the pulley in the grooved shaft of the drum and tightened it with the nut.

Then it was time to put the advisor, the engine that will serve as a generator and screw the blades to the metal triangle.

The stems of the triangle already had a hole in the tips, I made two more in each stem and I applied the blades to the triangle, using screws. The tip screw is 8mm and the other two 6mm. The blades were very secure. They are 70 cm long, but could be a little longer.

Oleei the tube of the tower, before applying the vane.

I applied the fan motor to the tube of the wind vane, also using tubular metal clamps. On the engine shaft I opened 8mm thread and I put a car alternator pulley.

This motor produces direct current, but it needs high rotations to reach enough voltage to light a 6-volt lamp, which is the lamp that is in the small headlamp. During the first experiments the lamp lit, but only when the wind was strong.
