Introduction: Side Table (2x4 Project)

I am going to be teaching you how to make a modern side table with step-by-step instructions. The goal of this project was to make the best item made by more than 1 and less than 2 2x4s, this project has to be 80% wood.

Supplies

2 - wood 2x4

4 - nails

Masking tape

F style clamps

Tools needed:

Table saw

Miter saw

Hand sander

Drill

Planer

Step 1: Cut Out Pieces

Cut out 12 pieces at 12" length with 30 degree angles at the end of each side making a trapizoid. Make sure after every cut on the miter saw you flip the 2x4 so that both of the angles are facing outwards. Afterwards use the table saw in order to make sure all the angles you cut are the same(Make sure to do both sides).

Step 2: Sand

Sand all twelve pieces in order to make sure they are smooth. Do this by using a hand sander.

Step 3: Glue

Take the twelve pieces and glue them into triangles, 4 triangles with 3 pieces each. Make sure they are clamped together, I used masking tape and taped at the edges.

Step 4: Glue Together

Take the 4 triangle pieces you glued together and glue them stacked on top of each other, use F style clamps to hold it together.

Step 5: Straighten Edges

Use the planer and straighten each edge of the triangle you glued together on the last step. Then sand with a hand sander.

Step 6: Cut the Legs

Cut the rest of your last 2x4 in half width ways. Then cut 4 pieces that are 15" with a 60 degree on one end of each piece.

Step 7: Sand

Sand the 60 degree angle on each leg with a disc sander and the rest of the leg with a hand sander

Step 8: Glue Legs

Take the legs you cut and flip the triangle upside down and glue the 2 legs on each side 8" from the top of it leaving the top side without legs. Drill in nails in each leg in order to help clamp them.
