Introduction: Simple DIY Bike Rack (1 Hour Build From 2 X 4 Lumber)

About: I'm a software engineer, and in my free time, I enjoy creating engineering prototypes, woodworking, playing music, and exercising. I'd love to share my knowledge and projects with everyone.

I’d to share a simple and quick bike rack design. This project can be completed in under an hour using 2x4 stud lumber and requires only a table saw and miter saw—no special tools needed! With its space-saving design, this rack is both practical and easy to build. Let’s get started!

Supplies

Tools:

  1. Miter saw
  2. Table saw
  3. Impact driver

Materials:

  1. 2 x 4 stud lumber

Step 1: Structure, Design and 3D Model

The rack is made up of angled cross-sections at 45 degrees and two bottom rails. The gap between the cross bars should be slightly wider than the bike tire to allow it to sit securely in a vertical position. The 45-degree angle of the cross bars helps prevent bike handles from interfering with each other, maximizing space efficiency.

Step 2: Cut, Cut, and Assemble

  1. cut the cross bars
  2. cut the 2 bottom rails
  3. test assembly
  4. cut 45-degree for all the pieces (optional)
  5. sanding
  6. Final assembly

And that's it! The whole thing can be done within 1 hour.

I hope this is helpful to you and I'll see you in the next one.
