Simple Green House/Seed Starter

In this instructable I will show you how to make a simple green house out of a clear plastic container.

Step 1: Materials

-seeds
-dirt
-clear plastic container
-paper towel  

Step 2: Paper Towel

Fold a paper towel so it will fit into the plastic container. Make sure you have at least three layers of paper toweling. The paper towel will soak up the water so the water will not sit on the bottom of the container.

Step 3: Dirt

Fill the container with dirt so that it almost reaches the top of it. Spread the dirt evenly in the container. Now you can push down craters in the dirt using a marker or your finger. Then put your seeds into the craters and cover them with dirt.

Step 4: Wait

Now just wait until your seeds grow enough till you can transfer them to your garden. Please vote for me in the Instructables Green Design Contest and in the Epilog Challenge V.

you can also use old egg cartons or egg containers, they are already shaped as little pockets.. and with the cover act like a mini greenhouse just like your system. and if you don't get any sunlight in your apartment try checking out the life seeder .!

I use the nice deep ones that cream cakes come in from the local supermarket bakery, of course that does mean my better half has to buy cream cakes regularly to keep me supplied but that is a sacrifice she doesn't seem to mind making ;-)

I do this but use cupcake containers similar to this that I buy from the supermarket. I then use very inexpensive and decomposable small starter plant pots that come in connected sheets. I water the inside of the plastic wells instead of the dirt so the pot wicks up only what is necessary to keep the soil damp.
Once it grows too big for the plastic container I transfer the plant making sure to rip up the decomposable pot's bottom so the roots have an easier time spreading.
Very inexpensive and you get to treat yourself to what are usually excellent cupcakes!

I have tried this too a couple of times because I´m always short in small greenhouses and containers. But I never became healthy plants. What did I do wrong? I did it the same as your instructable.
