Introduction: Simple Gummy Candies

My name is Tyler Popp and I’m going to show you how to make homemade gummy candy. This recipe has been in my family for years and I was taught as a kid because of how simple it is. Have you ever needed a snack for an event last minute but you didn’t want to settle for something store bought? Then this is the thing for you. I’ll be showing you in just a few easy steps how to make a sweet treat for people of all ages to enjoy!

Step 1: Supplies Needed

Corn syrup

Unflavored gelatin

Any flavor Jell-O mix

Ice cube/ gelatin mold

Step 2:

Get started by measuring out half a cup of cold water, then squirt in a quarter cup of corn syrup. Cold water will help the gelatin that will be added later separate properly and the corn syrup will give the finished gummies a nice smooth texture. if you wanted to make the mixture larger than this one package size it must always stay 2 parts water 1 part corn syrup.

Step 3:

Stir the corn syrup into the water until it is completely clear, then pour the mixture into a clean pot but don’t turn the heat on yet. If you do it could create a thick film on the top of the finished gummy mixture and make the next few steps more difficult.

Step 4:

Add two packets of unflavored gelatin to the pot and the entire packet of Jell-O. It may take a minute for everything to dissolve but keep stirring slowly until the liquid has no chunks left in it and everything is properly mixed in. Thoroughly mixing will also prevent any sort of unwanted lumps or possibility of the previously mentioned film on top.

Step 5:

Once everything is clear and colorful set your stove to medium-low heat and set a timer for 5-10 minutes making sure to continue stirring about every minute to prevent the sugar from burning. if any bubbling or sizzling occurs you'll want to turn the heat down and continue to stir until it settles. While waiting, it’s a good time to prepare a clean gelatin or ice cube mold to pour the candy into.

Step 6:

When you see that the mixture is transparent again it is ready to pour out. If you have lumps or bubbles at the top it may be because you didn’t start with cold water or the mixture heated up too fast. If this happens, pour all the mixture into a tall narrow glass and let it sit for about ten minutes until it separates into two layers with a gummy foam at the top, then all you have to do is scrape the foam away with a spoon or spatula.

Step 7:

If you have one available you can fill up a condiment container with your mixture to make for easier filling of the mold, but if you don’t you can slowly pour it right out of the pot just be careful not to miss as it is very hot and will stick to anything. The candies will shrink slightly so its okay to fill them just past the top of the mold to create a slight bulge. Put these gummies into the fridge and wait for 2-5 hours depending on the size and intricacy of the mold you choose. When removing the gummies make sure they are strong enough to not fall apart in the mold, if you feel excessive stickiness let them sit for a bit longer. Now you know how to use a couple of simple ingredients to make a delicious treat on just a few hours.
