Introduction: Simple Speaker , Homemade Headset

Difficulty of realization 5/10

Step 1: How It Work

Not talking about high definition audio, but it's surprising how easy it is to create a speaker to build headset.

Need only an enameled copper wire, a strong neodymium magnet and a plastic cup. The magnet vibrates the coil of copper when it passes the current, this vibration is amplified by the plastic cup. Fun experiment.

Step 2: How to Make , Copper Wire

Get the enamelled copper wire recovering from some old electric motor or some electronic component. Obtained the copper wire begin to wrap around a cylinder that has a similar size to the magnet that you will use. 15 - 20 turns of the wire are sufficient. It 's very important to remove the glaze from the ends of the wire to make electrical contact with the terminals.

Step 3: How to Make , Speaker

Stuck the coil of copper to the glass with adhesive, attach the ends of the copper wire to the electrical terminals. Attack the other terminal with the audio cable as shown in the video. Putting the magnet above the coil of copper ... incredible but true ... you have created a speaker.

Sort of a coupling resonator effect i guess... It might be just from the compression of air from the mag field, would love to see further study. I wonder if hooking up leads from input to an electromagnet would make the iron itself make sound of some sort.. Curious!

I think you mean to say the coil vibrates the magnet.. You are supplying the input through the wire...the out going magnetic field from the coil induces the same vibrational pattern as the music.. Very cool stuff

Thank you. What I meant is that it is the copper coil which transmits the vibration to the plastic cup. If you look, the sound is also produced when the magnet does not touch the plastic cup.
