Slingshot Darts - Pointy, Penetrating Ammo for Your Slingshot

Introduction: Slingshot Darts - Pointy, Penetrating Ammo for Your Slingshot

Slingshots are a lot of fun. They can also be effective hunting tools, although I'm not a hunter myself. However, shooting rocks with them gets boring after a while. I decided to spice up my slingshot shooting with these darts. I got the idea off of Youtube, but the ones that I saw were really complicated. There was a wooden body with a hole drilled for a metal spike and string tassel. I thought, "What the heck, I'll just duct tape some string to a nail and see if it works. Lo and behold, they did work. The fluffy string in the back creates more drag than the smooth nail in the front, so the dart levels out and flies straight after about ten feet. I had a lot of fun sticking them into cardboard boxes and tin cans. If you wanted to be really fancy, you could sharpen the nails on a bench grinder. If they were properly sharpened, I think they would be much more lethal to small game than other slingshot ammo.

SAFETY WARNING

Shoot them by holding the duct tape part in the pouch, with the nail facing up and away from your hand. With the nail facing away from your hand. I've never had the nail hit me, but I imagine if you shot the dart upside down, there would be a risk of that happening.

Flatten the point of the nail, and file a notch. attach a v shaped piece of wire to the sling pouch, cut in half, to attach your dart, and it will be safer, and more powerful
