Small Crocheted Messenger Bag

This cute crochet messenger bag is simple to make, with a mix of crochet and fabric.

Materials needed:
Two colors of yarn, your choice
K 10 1/2 gauge crochet hook
Yarn needle
1/2 yard of fabric, your choice of color
Thread and needle

Step 1: Getting Started

Using two strands of yarn, make a foundation chain with 36 stitches.
SC next row- SC36
Keep crocheting until the body of the bag measures 18 inches long.

Step 2: Bag Flap

Continue the body of the bag for the flap this time using Double Crochet Stitch
Two rows are done with the DC
Next row is SC
Repeat the 2 row DC with 1 row SC until the flap of the bag is about 9 inches long
Finish off with a row of SC, finish off and weave in ends.

Step 3: Side Panels and Strap

Foundation Chain- Ch 5
Row 1- SC 4
Work each row until side panels and strap are to desired length.
Sew side panels to the bag with yarn and yarn needle
Use safety pins to help keep the placement of the panels where you want them.

Step 4: Bag Interior

Using any color fabric, cut out fabric panels to cover the inside of the bag. Sew them together and sew them to the inside of the bag. 
If you wanted to keep the strap from stretching out, you could cut out some of the fabric and sew it to the underside of the strap.

You can also sew pockets into the bag for easy storage and organization.
