Introduction: Smart Lamp

INTRODUCTION

The evolution of the electronics industry has changed the way we perform our day-to-day activities. As the electronics industry grows, the size of electronics has reduced significantly. Home and office automation has become the latest trend in easing our mundane activities. The smart light industry is predicted to grow over Eight billion US Dollars in the year 2018, therefore the key to home automation is via lighting. Every home and office has lights in each and every room and hallway. Wireless connectivity with a Smart Light connected via a smartphone application drives the potential of home automation beyond imagination.

LIGHT DESIGN

The lamp is designed to be a standalone smart device. The lamp is powered by a micro-controller and wirelessly connected via Bluetooth or WIFI. Different types of sensors are integrated with the lamp to make it smart and to work without a traditional wall switch. A mobile application is used to connect the Smart Lamp wireless and use its features. These features can also be used via voice commands. Amazon Alexa merged with the Smart Lamp to develop the voice command feature.

Step 1: Features

  • App Controlled
  • Group Control
  • Change Colours/Strobe to Music
  • Brightness Control
  • Room Temperature Display
  • Bluetooth Music Airplay
  • Timer
  • Light Intensity Triggered
  • Motion Sensor
  • Voice Activated
  • Custom Colours
  • Connected
  • Bluetooth/WIFI

Step 2: Wireless Charging Dock

Smart phones and smart devices now come with the brand new wireless charging method. Integrating a Wireless Charging Dock to your table lamp further ease the way you charge your phone. A Smart Lamp on the table of your office, by your bed or your study table with the capability of wireless charging eliminated the annoying use of plugging your charger to a wall socket and finding an extension to bring the charger as close as possible. Wireless charging feature added to your smart lamp makes the idea of wireless charging much more cooler.

Step 3: Home Natural Light Management

Smart Lights inside the house using the Light Sensors can be used to monitor the light intensity falling inside the house. The Smart Lamp could be set to be turned ON only if natural light falling at your study table or office table is not enough. The use of Smart Natural Light Management, energy can be used efficiently and sustainable.

Step 4: Health Monitor

Health monitor feature monitors your day to day activities. To monitor activities, the Smart Light monitors how often you move from one place. If you are in one place for a long time, it narrates a reminder to take a short walk. This is a great feature added to prevent diseases such as Obese, which is very common in the USA. This feature is very useful for an office space, where people are occupied with work and forgets about their health. A light walk from time to time helps keeps your muscles healthy and prevent a person from obesity.

Step 5: Energy Monitor

Current Sensor added to the Smart Lamp is capable of monitoring the amount at electrical energy that is used up in the Smart Lamp. To save energy, the user can use the smart options that is programmed to save energy, and to turn of the Smart Lamp when the person is present in the room, or it can be done manually.

Step 6: Smart Reminder

The smart lamp is connected via an app to the mobile phone. Therefore the lamp itself can be set to a smart alarm to remind you of your activities when it is time.

Step 7: Security Features

PIR Sensor Burglar AlarmGas SensorSmoke DetectorPIR sensors integrated to the bulb allows to monitor and secure every inch of the home or office. The PIR sensors can be calibrated through the mobile application which eliminates the burglar alarm to be triggered by the pets inside the house. A sensor that is not visible to the burglar will take him in complete surprise and will make the burglar think twice before intrusion. Security for home or office is further improved by including a Gas Sensor to detect LPG gas leaks and Smoke Detector to identify a starting fire. This eliminates the need for a separate device for the Smoke detection.

Step 8: Technical Design

The Bulb is illuminated using highly efficient RGB colour changing LED’s. An array of LED’s are used to produce a brighter illumination. The sensors are integrated to the bulb itself, which transforms the bulb into a smaller yet a very smart device.

Step 11: Mobile Application

The Smart Lamp is completely controlled by the mobile phone application. The Smart Lamp automatically connects to the mobile device and is ready to be controlled by the mobile application. The mobile application brings you home automation to your finger tips. The light need not be turned on to use its features. Using the application, the user can;

  • Set a custom colour of the illumination.
  • Change Brightness of illumination
  • Select different modes, such as night mode, daylight saving mode and sleeping modes.
  • Power Saver Mode
  • Turn on Burglar Alarm
  • Select power modes such as Power Saving, Sleep or High Performance.
  • Wireless Music Air play
  • Timer
  • Automatic Motion Sensor light trigger mode

Step 12: Efficiency

The electronics industry has grown to be at its peak. Electronic components have taken their turn towards ultra low powered and energy efficient, and so is LED's. LED's has taken over the market of illumination from displays to lights, using up to a fraction of energy required. Using this technology of low powered electronics and LED's, lights can be made smarter and efficient. Introducing the Smart Lamp, a device that is more than just smart light, but a device to connect the home or office towards automation.
