Solder helping hands are an awesome aid in the workshop.

Helping hand arms need to be flexible and precise so you can easily position objects.

These 3D printed helping hands are easily configurable to have more arms or be longer, with the round base focusing all the arms on the central work area. Six different attachment points give more options for more positions or arms.

Supplies

Step 1: Print the 3D Printed Parts

Instructions for printing are on Printables (https://www.printables.com/model/344516-solder-helping-hands).

Print the following parts:

 - 1 Base

 - 5 or 6 Joints for each arm

 - 1 Connector for each arm. Measure the diameter of your crocodile clip connection point to decide whether to use the 4.5mm or 5.5mm Connector. 

Step 2: Glue Crocodile Clips Into the Connectors

I used Epoxy glue. Use a toothpick to fill the connector with some glue, then slide in the crocodile clip.

For smaller crocodile clips, don't slide the clip in too far, make sure when you squeeze the clip and the Connector part doesn't get in the way. 

Let the glue dry before assembling the arms.

Step 3: Connect the Parts Together

Clip the joints and connectors together.

When doing this, keep fingers away from the joints so they can flex as they clip together.

Clip the arms onto the base.

Step 4: Start Using !

The base has a 'cross' of plastic in the middle so you can either put a weight on it or tape down the base to keep it all steady.
