Introduction: Sponge Drain Tray

I made a sponge drain tray. You put the sponge on the flat surface and the water drops down through the holes on top and flows down a slightly curved ramp out a slit in the front and goes back into your sink. the purpose of this is to have a cleaner and more organized area when it comes to working in the kitchen or in the sink to be more exact.

Supplies

  • Autodesk inventor
  • 3d printer
  • plastic filament

Step 1: Basic Shape and Extruding

I started by making a two point rectangle that is 6in by 3.5in and proceeded to extrude it 1.5in

Step 2: Hollowing Out the Rectangle

Next I used shell to hollow out the extruded rectangle with a thickness of 1.5in

Step 3: Making Slit for Water Exit

I started a new sketch on the front and made a rectangle that is .1in by 5.8in. next I extruded the rectangle and put the cut Boolean with a distance of 1in just to make sure that it went through but I had to dimension the bottom side of the slit to the bottom of the face .1in so that it would be perfectly flush in the inside face.

Step 4: Ramp for Water Flow

I started by making a new sketch on one of the walls inside than used the line feature to make a triangle with a slight curve to help with the water flow. after that I extruded it 5.8in so that it would cover the whole inside.

Step 5: Platform to Place Sponge

I made a sketch on the top of the rectangle with a thickness of .2in and extruded it 5.8. after I dimensioned it .2in from the top to use as a little barrier so the water doesn't go out the sides,

Step 6: Wholes for Water Exit

After I made the flat surface for the sponge to sit on I had to make some wholes for the water to go down and out the slit . I made a square .2in by .2in and extruded it down .3in so it wouldn't make a whole in the ramp I made previously. the last thing I had to do was make an even layout of the wholes through out the top of the surface, so I did a rectangular pattern up 4 with a distance of .830in and to the right 8 with a distance of .730in. I also dimensioned the first square .2in on both sides to make it look more neat and organized.
