Introduction: Steampunk Birdhouse Ornament
Materials:
• small unfinished wood birdhouse - Michaels - $1
• Gold metallic spray paint (I use Krylon; it lasts a long time) - $5
• Gears and other adornments - pieces from a busted-up old alarm clock, Jim Holtz idea-ology brand scrapbooking supplies at Michaels (keys, gears)
• bird charm - from some old costume jewelry I had. It was gold but I spray painted it black to contrast with the gold birdhouse
Instructions:
• spray paint birdhouse
• attach adornments with hot glue (or other adhesive - crazy glue doesn't work very well on wood)

Cool! You could have done a little more to it, though -- like explain what kind of parts you would need to define it as "Steampunk", or where to put such things. It seems a little cheap to throw in things like that to make it longer, but it certainly isn't any good to have the Instructable so tiny.

While some of my instructables are not, strictly speaking, Steampunk, they all are small parts of my overall Christmas display. I'm certainly not an authority on Steampunk and only started making my Christmas display the beginning of December 2012. So, I'm still figuring out the look. Elements that are commonly used are: springs, gears, cogs, sprockets, rivets, gauges, hoses, vacuum tubes, compasses, keys, clock faces, pocket watches, wings, cast iron, brass, copper, zeppelins, hot air balloons, goggles, typewriter keys, top hats, magnifying glasses, sun, moon, stars. I've also seen birds (especially black), butterflies, dragonflies, lace, old books, silhouettes, chains, cameos, buttons and buckles.

I quite understand where you're getting at (And your Christmas display certainly sounds interesting, especially involving this cool thing) but I am suggesting that you implement such things into the Instructable itself so that those reading the Instructable have a better understanding of what you did, and possibly make something of their own but with its own unique spin to it while retaining the Steampunk look.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I signed up less than a week ago so I appreciate the pointers. Thanks!
