Intro: Stormtrooper Cut-Out Shirt

Over the last while, one of the most popular crafts floating around the internet has been the skull cut-out shirt, such as this one by scoochmaroo. It's appeared on craft site after craft site, Pinterest board after Pinterest board, and I decided to give it a new, nerdy twist - converting the skull into a Stormtrooper.

STEP 1: Print Your Template

Print out the template you want to use. I printed mine on two pieces of paper and sellotaped them together. For this kind of project, I found that some pumpkin carving patterns are perfect, so that's where I found this pattern (pattern does not belong to me).

STEP 2: Laminate the Template

Cut the template to A4 size if necessary, and laminate it. This step is optional, but helps to make a durable stencil that holds its shape well. Cut out the parts of the template that will be cut out on the shirt.

STEP 3: Trace Your Template

Tape your laminated cut-out template onto your shirt, and trace the cut-out areas with a tailor's pen.

STEP 4: Cut Out the Template

Cut out the spaces inside the traced gaps, creating your Stormtrooper cut-out design.

I like what you did. I would also paint in the sections that you left to keep the pattern straight. Here is a picture of one I did using fabric paint. For the back I made a copy of a comic book cover and printed it on T-Shirt transfer paper

Will the cuts in the fabric begin to droop after a few washes?

I'm so glad! Don't forget to post a picture if you make your own!

Thanks!

Awesome! The force is strong with this one!

Thank you!

This looks so cool! Definitely need to find a shirt to cut up now! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the kind words! :) It's a really fun way to revamp a boring old shirt.
