Step 1: Sketch Snack Shapes on Paper

  1. Use A4 paper and pencil to draw various stylized snake (snack) body shapes.
  2. Add colorful sections using sketch pens to serve as a guide for later yarn wrapping.
  3. Choose your favorite design to proceed further.

Step 2: Create Full-Length Snake Profile

  1. Connect two or more A4 pages lengthwise to form a large canvas (approx. 480mm long or as per your preference).
  2. Redraw your chosen snake shape using a sketch pen.
  3. Create both the top view and side view sketches of the same snake profile.
  4. Cut out both profiles carefully and glue the pieces if split across pages.

Step 3: Transfer and Cut Shapes From Cardboard

  1. Glue your paper cutouts (top and side views) onto thick cardboard.
  2. Use a paper cutter or scissors to cut out both profiles precisely.
  3. You now have two major structural components: the top and side cardboard shapes.

Step 4: Assemble the 3D Frame

  1. Lay the top view cutout flat on a surface.
  2. Stand the side view cutout upright perpendicularly across the top view—this forms a cross-like frame.
  3. Use quick glue or wood adhesive to connect the two. Hold until bond starts setting.
  4. use 120 x 25 mm cardboard strip to cover mouth part to make arch to make shape .
  5. Cut thin cardboard strips (~8–10 mm wide) and form a boundary frame around the base and sides.

Step 5: Fill the Interior With Foam

  1. Cut black foam into small blocks or shapes and fit them snugly into the 3D frame between the top and side profiles.
  2. Trim edges and corners for a smooth snake-like contour.
  3. Use glue to fix foam to the inside surfaces, gradually building up the body mass.
  4. Smoothen the outer shape by trimming excess foam.

Step 6: Cover the Surface With Paper Strips

  1. Cut long thin strips of thin paper (e.g., 4 inches by 1 inch).
  2. Mix white wood adhesive with a little water to create a brushable paste.
  3. Layer the entire snake structure with overlapping strips, applying the glue mixture with a brush or fingers.
  4. Let it dry completely (may take several hours depending on humidity).

Step 7: Wrap the Body With Colorful Yarn

  1. Choose 5–10 vibrant yarn colors to create a striking segmented pattern.
  2. Start at the tail end. Fix the yarn start point with quick glue.
  3. Wrap yarn tightly and evenly for 2–3 inches (or desired length) per segment.
  4. Secure the end of each color with glue underneath the body.
  5. Repeat for all colors until the entire body is wrapped in beautiful yarn patterns.

Step 8: Craft the Eyes

  1. Cut two small ovals of double-sided tape.
  2. Roll yarn spirally (like a snail shell) to form eyes and stick them onto the tape.
  3. Place one on each side of the snake’s head to give it expressive features.

Step 9: Add Mouth Detailing

  1. Cut and attach short parallel yarn strips around the mouth region for texture.
  2. Wrap additional colored yarn around the upper and lower mouth separately for distinction.
  3. Fix all yarn ends firmly with quick adhesive.

Step 10: (Optional): Create the Snake Tongue

  1. Cut a small forked tongue shape from red or vibrant colored paper.
  2. Fix it at the snake’s mouth opening using glue for a fun and realistic touch.

Step 11: Build a Wall-Mounting Support

  1. Cut six J-shaped cardboard pieces to act as support brackets.
  2. Glue them in pairs, forming two thick, sturdy J-shaped mounts.
  3. Use glue gun to attach these supports to the wall.
  4. Carefully place your string art snake décor onto the supports to complete the display.
