Introduction: Sugar Cookies

Step 1: Ingredients

1 cup of granulated white sugar

1 cup of unsalted butter

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon of almond extract

1 egg

2 teaspoons of baking powder

3 cups of all purpose flour

Step 2: Directions

1. preheat oven to 350F

2. blend butter and sugar until smooth (about three minutes)

3. beat egg and extracts together

4. in a separate bowl combine baking powder with flour then add little at a time with the wet ingredients

5. start kneading the dough by hand

6. (do not chill!) roll out on a flat surface and cut (as thick as you want)

7. bake at 350F for 6-8 minutes. let cool and firm up then transfer to cooling rack

Step 3: Icing

ingredients

1lb of powdered sugar

4 egg whites

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

and if you want food coloring

Step 4: Making the Icing

step 1. beat egg whites til foamy on high speed with mixer

step 2. switch to low setting and slowly add sugar and lemon juice then flip back to high speed and wait til icing is thick and forms stiff peaks

step 3. add food coloring (if you want)
