Introduction: Super Bowl Tuscan Boule Bread

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.

Super bowl weekend is this weekend and I wanted to share this recipe with my readers, early enough that you can prepare to plan for it in advance. It is super easy to make and taste oh so delicious. Follow through and lets get started~

Step 1: Ingredients and Utensils

Ingredients:

Tuscany Boule bread, sour dough, or any similar round loaf that compliments the recipe

1/3 Cup butter or equivalent

1-2 T Olive oil

Cooked bacon cubes

Sharp white cheese or what ever you like

5 Chopped green onions including tops

Roasted sesame seeds for the top

Mashed garlic if desired We like it with garlic

Utensils:

Cast iron skillet or an oven and stove top baking dish

Aluminium foil, knives, spoon, pot holders, colander, and cutting board

Step 2: Slice the Bread

I usually use a pre-baked loaf of round sour dough bread for this recipe but decided to try this store bought bread instead. It worked great except it took longer to bake than my recipe so if you buy this type of bread; pre-bake it according to the directions but do not brown the top. I did not pre-bake this loaf and estimate it took about ten to fifteen minutes longer than a fully baked loaf to achieve good results.

Method:

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F

While the oven is warming, slice the bread as shown in the pictures. Slice one direction; but not all the way through the bread because you do not want loose cubes. Then turn the cutting board around to the opposite side shown in the pictures; to make a checker board shape.

Gently hold the bread in your palms and carefully, slightly bend the bread so the individual cubes begin to separate, this makes the bread a little easier to stuff with the onion mixture and cheese.

Set the bread aside while you prep the onions and garlic (if using) and go to the next step.

Step 3: Onions and Garlic

Preparations:

A lot of times I will pre-cook a whole package of bacon to use over a period of a few days. This saves me time. For this recipe you don't want to over cook the bacon because the bacon will bake in the oven for about 25 minutes. My husband and I like our bacon well done but I think most of you probably prefer a softer lighter bacon.

Pre-cook bacon if you haven't already.

Melt olive oil and butter in a pan.

Wash and dice the onions and mash garlic cloves if using them.

Saute the onions until soft but not brown; adding the garlic a few minutes before the onions are softened.

Turn off the heat.

Set the pan aside to cool.

Step 4: Cheese

Method:

Slice the cheese into thin slices.

Carefully stuff the top and sides of the bread with the cheese.

Stuff the onion mixture carefully into the cracks of the bread using a spoon.

Sprinkle the top of the bread with sesame seeds and cooked bacon.

Step 5: Bake

Method:

I do not wash the skillet.

Place a large piece of aluminium foil inside the skillet making sure there is enough to cover the bread; or you may wash the skillet after removing the onion mixture and then add the foil.

Both ways work and each have their disadvantages.

Place the bread inside the skillet and cover it.

Bake the bread for 15 minutes and then remove the foil from the top and sides of the bread and bake it another 10 minutes to brown the top.

Remove the bread from the oven and allow to cool, long enough to touch.

Step 6: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

Serve as an appetizer or with soup, salad, or chili. It is usually served as an appetizer like a pull apart bread. It is delicious and a huge hit for any party, family gathering or Super Bowl. The sky is the limit with the ingredients depending on the flavor profile you like.

Thank you instructables and contributors for making this site a great place to share and exchange ideas.

Thanks for stopping by and do have a safe and happy Super bowl~

Thank you for this recipe. I didn't take a picture, because the whole thing kind of fell apart, but that did NOT affect the taste AT all!! I didn't do bacon because I hate bacon, yet ironically, I love Chinese take-out BBQ pork. I was going to make this without any meat and I think it would still be awesome, but I had almost a whole order of BBQ pork, which I sliced really thin (you can't control the width, since that's how it comes, but stack up your pieces and slice them very thinly) and follow the same instructions. It was a hit, not for our Super Bowl party but for my Bunko group and they have the most discerning palate. I'll rake a pic next time and give you my recipe for "Sex on a Baguette" (my brother-in-law's name for the best bread ever)

Thank you for sharing
