Introduction: Supercalifragilisticexpialibreakfast

This is a variation of the full english breakfast - simply called Supercalifragilisticexpialibreakfast.

It takes a while to prepare, but the end result is a breakfast to remember. This is a dance of tastes on your tongue and it kicks you to a great day.

It includes

  • Coffee and cinnamon rolls
  • Rösti, sausages, bacon
  • Marble egg (great easter eggs to make with kids)
  • Freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Toast with jam

Step 1: Cinnamon Rolls Part 1

The cinnamon rolls take bit time to prepare so it might be the best to make them day before.

If you want warm cinnamon rolls with your breakfast you have two options:

1. Nuke them in microwave oven before breakfast

2. Estimate preparation time so that you put the buns in the oven bit before you start to boil coffee.

What ever you choose, you need following ingrediens:

  • 2,5 dl of lukewarm milk
  • 25 g of yeast (or a package of dry yeast)
  • 1 egg
  • 0,75 dl of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 0,5 table spoon of cardamon (or about fist full of cardamon seeds)
  • 75 g of melted butter
  • 0,5 kg of flour

and for the filling you need

  • butter
  • cinnamon
  • sugar

Short instructions: Mix everything (except the filling) in the bowl.

Detailed instructions:

  1. Take warm milk and mix yeast in it. Let the mix set for a while for yeast to wake up.
  2. Add egg, sugar, cardamon, melted butter and salt
  3. Add a bit flour and start to mix
  4. When the mix is creamy, start adding the flour slowly until you get nice dough what does not anymore stick into everything.
  5. Put a towel over the dough bowl and let it grow in warm place to double the original size

Pro-tip for cardamon: to get the gardamon out from the "shell" slightly crush them in mortar. This way the skin gets off easily and you find dark small seeds inside. When you have cleaned only the seeds in to mortar, crush them througfully and you get the freshest possible cardamon. Worth of the extra effort and you get nice scent to your kitchen too!

Step 2: Cinnamon Rolls Part 2

When the dough has doubled the size it is time to make the roll.

  1. Apply some flour on the table and get the dough out from the bowl.
  2. Get rolling pin and roll the dough to square shape (thinkess should be even and under one centimeter)
  3. Make sure you have warm butter (not runny). Apply butter onto flat dough with a butter knife.
  4. Spread sugar and cinnamon evenly to the buttered dough.
  5. Roll your dough to a cinnamon cigar (don't press too tight)
  6. Cut your cinnamon cigar to even pieces (about 5 cm per piece is good size)
  7. Place your rolls on the oven form and cover them with a towel.

Let the rolls grow a bit again under the towel. You can for example wait until the oven is ready.

Heat the oven to 225 Celcius (437 in fahrenheit).

Take one egg and break it in a cup. Apply egg on a top of each bun with a cooking brush. Egg gives the glossy colour for the buns.

Put the buns in the oven and let them cook about 15 minutes (or until they are nice brownish like in the last picture).

Step 3: Marble Eggs

This is a nice and easy way to make really cool looking easter eggs without messing with different paints.

And lot's of fun for kids as well.

You need:

  1. Eggs (white variety)
  2. Pieces of cloth (torn pieces of old t-shirts for example)
  3. Onion peels (if you have both, red and yellow, you get really nice effects)
  4. String
  5. Kettle

Place the egg on a cloth and apply onion peels around it. Roll everything inside the cloth fragment and close it with piece of string. Try to close it quite tight that the onion peels don't start to wander around too much. You can make "egg candies" or "ball of yarn" from them as you please.

Place the eggs to the kettle and add cold water.

Boil the eggs. Because of the cloth, you need to boil the eggs bit longer. Wait until the water boils and measure about 12 minutes to get fully boiled eggs.

Cool the suited up eggs under cool water and open the packages and clean the onion peels from the eggs.

Now you should have eggs with really nice marble pattern.

Step 4: Rösti (or Hashbrowns)

Rösti is traditionally made only from potato but just to have bit of a twist, let's add bit carrot as well.

You need:

  1. 2 potatoes
  2. 1 carrot
  3. salt
  4. Oil and butter for frying
  5. Strainer, frying pan and shredder

When you buy potatoes, buy the ones which are "dirty". Ready washed potatoes are easy of course, but they lose a taste very fast during the storing.

Peel the potatoes and carrot and shred them to strainer.

Add about 1 tea spoon of salt and mix. Place the strainer to sink because now the salt will start to pull extra liquid out from the mix. After maybe 5 minutes squeeze well to get the water away and add some more salt.

Make two burgers out from the potato carrot mix like in the picture.

Heat up the fryinig pan with oil and butter (1/2 of butter and 1/2 of oil is a good frying mixture). When the oil is hot, add your potato-burgers on the pan. You can still mold them if they get bit loosen.

Fry with medium heat about 15 minutes (depends on the thickness of your rösti) on each side until they are nice and crispy. Potato takes quite a long time to cook so too hot pan will just burn your rösti and leave the potato raw from the middle. For the best taste experience - order your rösti well done.

Step 5: Fresh Orange Juice

Full breakfast is not full without freshly squeezed OJ.

So get some nice and juicy oranges and squeeze them. You need about two oranges for one glass.

Step 6: Coffee, Bacon, Toast and Wieners

Bacon and wieners.

There is not really any receipt for this. Just cut the heads of the wieners so you will get "laughing wieners" when fried. Fry the bacon and wieners to the desired crispiness.

Real coffee is made with old fashion coffee pot. The receipt is the same as with filter coffee (one coffee spoon of coffee grounds for each cup) but you need more coarse coffee grounds.

Cooking the coffee:

  1. Measure wanted amount of cold water to the pot.
  2. Boil the water
  3. Take pot away from stove and add coffee grounds.
  4. Put the pot back to the stove and let the water boil again so that the coffee grounds get mixed with water.
  5. Place the pot on the table to set a bit.

If you are afraid of coffee grounds you can filter the coffee through a tea strain when you pour it.

At the same time as you do the coffee, you should also prepare toasts. Don't clean the bacon grease from the pan. If you fry your toast in the bacon grease you get lovely extra taste.

Step 7: Final Touch and Serving

For the final touch you need some jam to eat with the toast or maybe butter if you prefer that.

Now you should have everything ready.

Serve everything neatly on the table.

Pour some coffee to yourself and to your loved ones.

Enjoy your full breakfast!
