TARDIS Bedroom Door (with Pictures)

I have done this with my older daughter's bedroom door. It's a six-panel door, so it's not exactly right but it still looks good. I used Oxford Blue, which gives a lovely, rich and deep colour. I printed off the Phonebox text and St John's Ambulance badge and cut them out, glued them to art card and stuck them on the door with double-sided tape. I should have primed the door in a base colour first so ended up doing three coats of Blue. I also used plain masking tape for the upper window segments, which was a mistake, as the paint bleeds under the tape and looks messy. I'd get car detailing tape the next time. It's a great idea to carry out and takes about a week of evenings to complete.

In the original series, in the episode "Logopolis", Tom Baker's 4th Doctor is trying to measure the dimensions of an actual police box so he can fix the chamelon circuit. He materializes the TARDIS around another TARDIS (as does The Master), which leads to several comical scenes, including an officer trying to make a call from the phone. This is also how Tegan Jovanka becomes a companion of The Doctor, as her aunt's car breaks down and she enters the box thinking she will find help. (Of course, if the phone is on the outside, and the box is for holding a prisoner, why would she be going inside. Alas, it spoils all the fun to point plot holes in Doctor Who).

I did laugh when I read the "Pull to open" on the notice, pretty sure this is a push to open door... Other than that, nice work! (And I do know that that's what it actually says, just found it amusing)

On the episode "The Doctor's wife" when the TARDIS is put into a human woman, she calls the Doctor stupid because he never reads the sign on her door that clearly says "Pull to open". However the sign is not referring to the main door but for the separate phone door. On old Police Boxes, the panel the sign is on opens out to expose a public use phone to call police and for police to call in. The box its self was designed to lock up a suspect till a wagon could pick them up.

In the episode "The empty child" the 9th Doctor opens the door to answer the phone it rings, and gets the creepy "are you my mummy?" message. He asks the boy how he's calling since its a fake phone in a fake phone box.
