Intro: TV Stand

My parents had a tiny book shelf for their new TV so decided to build them a TV stand as a Christmas gift. The console took 3-4 weekends to build and cost around $200 in materials. The oak wood and light stain was chosen to match existing furniture. Dimensions: 65”w x 20”d x 27”h

STEP 1: Cut ¾” Plywood for Top and Bottom

STEP 2: Notch Corners to Fit Corner Posts With Edge to Meet Depth of 2x2 Corner Post

STEP 3: Glue and Finish Nail Edge Pieces to Top and Bottom

STEP 4: Reinforce Finished Edges to Top With Pocket Holes Using Kreg Jig

STEP 5: Braces Added for Hex Bolt Support to Corners. Countersunk Hole for Corner Screw.

STEP 6: Legs Attached With Bolt.

STEP 7: Process Repeated for Bottom Shelf With 2” Gap for Clearance Under Stand (bottom Being Held Up by Support Pieces in Pic As I Screwed in Corners.

STEP 8: Used Pocket Jig for Bottom Rather Than the Corner Bolts.

Aligning the corner bolts for the bottom was difficult so I opted for pocket screws instead.

STEP 9: Top and Bottom Finished.

STEP 10: Panels for Sides Measured, Cut and Secured With Pocket Jig Screws.

STEP 11: Divider Panels Cut and Secured With Pocket Jig Screws.

STEP 12: Slight Gap Left in Front to Allow for Oak Iron-on Veneer Facing.

STEP 13: Center Shelves Measured and Secured With Pocket Screws.

STEP 14: Support Brackets for the Shelves Cut and Screwed to Sides and Middle.

STEP 15: Shelves, Drawer Fronts and Back Cut

Left and right shelves cut and edged with finishing trim. Drawer fronts measured and cut to size of the openings. I opted for 2 drawers at the bottom and left the top open for a cable box and/or dvd player. I cut 3/4" plywood to size to fit the back openings and opted to leave the drawer slots open in the back. Back was inserted using pocket holes.

STEP 16: Drawers Measured and Notches Ripped for Bottom. Sides Were Taken in an Inch to Allow for Rails and Secured With Pocket Screws to Front.

STEP 17: ¼” Panel Inserted for Bottom.

STEP 18: Drawer Back Screwed in to Finish.

STEP 19: Front Doors Measured and Cut With 45 Degree Angle. Door Frame Pieces Ripped and Notched to Allow for Plexiglass Insert.

STEP 20: Corners Glued and Screwed. Added Glue and “foot” on Corner to Add Support From Twisting. Cut and Sanded Off Foot.

STEP 21: No-mortise Hinges Attached.

STEP 22: Holes Cut in Back for Wire Access. 2 Coats of Light Honey Stain & 3 Coats of Matte Polyurethane.

STEP 23: Drawer Rails Attached.

STEP 24: Glue Attached to Inside Frame and Plexiglass Inserted and Clamped.

STEP 25: Magnet Attached.

STEP 26: Mirror Tacks Added for Additional Holding of Plexiglass.

STEP 27: Knobs Installed.

STEP 28: All Done!

Excellent workmanship. The photographic documentation was excellent. Next time consider adding some comments explaining the construction process. It takes more time but I'm sure members with less woodworking expertise would appreciate the information and find it helpful.
