Introduction: Table Saw Restoration
Quick restoration project I thought I'd share.
Step 1: Disassemble
Disassemble the saw and take good photos of all the parts to help with reassembly.
Step 2: Organize
Keep all the hardware organized for easy cleaning and reassembly.
Step 3: Rust Removal
I used a store purchased rust remover called "Metal Rescue" for this project. It was very quick and easy, albeit expensive.
Step 4: Body
Clean the body of the saw and give it a light sanding to prepare it for painting. Tape off any surfaces that do not need paint. To properly repaint the project, first remove all the paint with a stripper or abrasive and prime.
Step 5: Paint
Spray a few coats of paint on the desired pieces.
Step 6: Electric Motor
Disassemble the electric motor. Clean all the parts and use pressurized air to clean out the coils.
Step 7: Motor
Reassemble the motor.
Step 8: Reassemble
Reassemble the saw and use lubricant where desired.
Step 9: Adjustment
Square the blade to the surface of the table and adjust the stop on the internal threaded rods to hold the square position.
Step 10: Sand Top
Lightly sand the paint off the top of the table using fine grit paper.
Step 11: Tap
The threads for the table insert screw hole were stripped. I tried to tap the hole but wasn't having any luck. I used JB Weld to secure a nut under the hole to hold the screw.
Step 12: Wax Top
Put a coat of wax on the top of the saw to prevent rust and provide a low friction surface.
Step 13: Run Out
Check the blade for run out with a dial indicator.
Step 14: Assemble
Continue assembly.
Step 15: Fence
Restore the fence and make adjustments. I replaced the plastic rolling wheel with a skateboard ball bearing.
Step 16: Finish
Rip some stock.
