Introduction: Taking Apart RC (project 4)

For the first step you need to take out all the screws that you can possible see. There are a couple that are hidden that I had to find under the back wheels. There were two screws missing in the gear box and the two that were in there were stripped so that was fun.

Step 1: Dealing With the Electronics and Taking Them Apart.

Once you have taking all the screws out and open to the insides you can see it is way more complicated than expected. I was expecting something simple with a simple circuit. NO! This has a lot going into it. Side note I took a minute to look up how much one of these toys would cost. Which I got this toy from Goodwill for $1.29. They toys cost is $150+ depending which years you get nothing less.

So once you get him open you need to start taking the heads off of the wiring. These are little most of the time brown connection points for the wires to hook into the breadboard/perf board. There are then some screws that you have to undo as well to get them off of the plastic of the toy. Some pieces possibly could be glued so if that is the case I just get an exacto knife or scissors and do it that way.

As you can see in the photo all of the screws and little pieces I went ahead and put into a zip locked bag that way they are easy access and you definitely don't want to lose them.

Step 2: Laying Everything Out

Next step for me was to lay everything out in front of me to get an idea of the pieces and what I am looking at!!

Step 3: THE VIDEO (Watch All the Way Through)

Throughout the video it shows you more step by step what I did but I wanted to give you a preview first. So in the beginning of my video I show after I had gotten it apart and I am showing you the circuit board and this one is much bigger than most little kid toys. I then go to show all of the pieces. These pieces include: microphones, IR receivers/transverses, limit switches, motors, wheels, power switch, battery holder, the board (controller board). (Pardon the shaking in the video I left the room quickly to grab a soda and my partner in crime decided to check out the stabilizer on the camera in my new phone!!!)

I then proceed to draw out a very simple and rudimentary circuit diagram just to show the basics. This includes the controller board aka the breadboard, 3 microphones, the speaker, 1 limit switch which acts as a bumper when something hits it, IR receivers, the power switch of course, 2 limit switches which are used for steering, one motor for steering the eyes and the wheeley bar, and lastly the motor that controls the wheels.

MEET MAX MY DOG WHO HAS TO WEAR A DIAPER :D

Overall this project was really fun and putting it back together is much easier than taking it apart!!

Thanksss

Step 4: Upload to Instructables ;)

Last and final step is to add your beautiful work to Instructables for all to see
