Old computers never die, they live on as art. Beauty is in the eyes of a computer geek. This is my first Instructable and my first contest so I hope you all enjoy it and all those computer parts laying around will become a piece of art hanging on your wall or a friend or family members’ wall. With this type of project anything goes the only limits are your imagination.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

• A frame or something you can use as a frame

• 2 cans of gloss or gloss rust spray paint

• 1 spray can of high gloss clear varathane

• Hot glue gun or fast drying clear cement

• Misc. household objects

• Misc. computer parts

Step 2: STEP 1:

Start off with a frame or something you can use as a frame, even a piece of wood or particle board will do. Lay your frame flat to avoid run off, lay it on a piece of cardboard or plastic garbage bag. My preference for this and all my similar projects is 2 base colors but feel free to use as many or as few as you like..

Start by spray painting an outer border, I use the gloss for it’s fast drying properties but do keep your frame flat so a streak of run off doesn’t surprise you and ruin the overall appearance. Note, take appropriate precautions to avoid getting paint on surfaces such as walls or floors or that $10,000 Persian rug. Always use spray paint in a well ventilated area and avoid inhaling fumes.

Step 3: STEP 2:

Allow one hour for drying time before applying center color, spray paint feels dry to the touch in aprox. 1 hour, drying times may vary for you.

Now with both colors applied to your frame let dry aprox 3 hours or until you’re sure its completely dry. Remember to keep your frame lying flat during this drying process.

Now with your frame still lying flat and completely dry take your computer parts and whatever other objects you plan to incorporate into your masterpiece and arrange them until you are satisfied with the effect. Now take your glue gun and start adhering the parts in place on your frame. Again use caution, hot glue can burn. Hot glue dries quickly so in a few minutes you can proceed to step 4.

Step 4: STEP3:

We’re almost done. With your artwork still lying flat, spray paint the entire surface generously with Varathane (use caution as fumes are toxic). Allow to dry approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. Repeat this process until you have 3 to 4 coats. I like the extreme high gloss effect so I usually go with 4 coats.

Allow the piece to dry overnight and Voila you have a high tech version of the Mona Lisa.
