Teddy Bear Speaker

Intro: Teddy Bear Speaker

Simple and cheap speaker system out of a cute teddy bear.

STEP 1: Materials

-a stuffed bear or other animal
-speakers (I used old computer speakers)
-screw driver or something to open the speakers
-soldering epuipment to solder the wires after taking them out of the speaker
-scissors or knife to open the bear or animal
-needle and thread to stitch the bear or animal up again

STEP 2: Speakers

First off open the box that houses the speaker and take the speaker itself out. Do this for both speakers. Secondly solder any ends back together.

STEP 3: Box It

I just used one of the speaker boxes to house all the wires but you may want to use something smaller. This goes into the bear. Make sure that the speakers are always turned on and the volume is at the desired level.

STEP 4: The Bear

Open the back of the bear and put each speaker into a chosen limb. I put a speaker in each leg. Then put in the wire housing container.

STEP 5: Stitch Me Up

Now it is time to stitch up the bear and leave the power cord and speaker jack out.

STEP 6: Turn It Up

Now attach an ipod, MP3, or something else to the speaker jack and blast it.

heeuy I just bought a old pair of speakers for only 1,00 euro and I did al the staps, but just tested it out and when I dud putted the input (of the speakers) into my phone, it didn't work :s, but unfortuanitly, the speakers did work when I did plugged them in to my computer, any explanation for this?

I think your iPod produces a signal which is about 125mV, while your computer outputs a 5V signal. You could try turning up your ipod volume or turn the box volume up. Be careful though not to damage the speakers when it's too loud.

computer op-amps don't output 5v. That's only USB. I think it's more closer to 250mv

Huh... are you not concerned about this resulting in a flaming stuffed animal on your bed (or your girlfriends bed) and an ensuing human BBQ? I'd be worried about it starting a fire. The stuff inside would probably go up faster than dry tinder in a desert.

Oh Pooh! (Winnie, that is) I don't know what sort of planetary alignment would be required to get any significant spark or overheat out of piddly little speakers like those. Also, teddy bears are intended as children's toys, so some degree of flame retardant-ness probably went into the specifications for the stuffing. That is, before all toys were manufactured in China, and consumer product safety standards kinda went out the window, in favour of the almighty Market.

I put the wiring in a plastic container to reduce the probability of a fire, but you are right about how flamible the animal is.

hmm... perhaps you could sew the speaker cases to bear so that the bulk of it is inside, yet the back end with the wires is accessible. This would also allow you to change the volume if you set it up right (make your own custom container for that I guess). No wires in the bear this way and you and manipulate the speakers without having to proform surgery. Granted a little more work...

i put my electronics in a camping soap holder thing and then cut holes in it & the bear. Then I put the knob and button through them & secured it with hot glue

My bf loves this thing. He has never used it, but now I don't keep him awake when I watch cartoons till 3 am. I took apart an old set of headphones for a speaker. I have to cuddle the bear close to hear, but I don't get any distortion and the sound doesn't carry to the person next to me.

I was given an eeyore plush with speakers for christmas, and what they did was that they had the aforementioned grille on the speakers. Possible problem I see with this design, is that you'd get a bit of distortion through the bear's skin. How bad is it? The one I got had the grille on the outside, so that the circular "endcap" of the leg, eg, the foot, was the grille, as to minimise the distortion. Hope you get what i'm saying
