Introduction: Tensegrity Back Bone Model

Here's how to make a Tensegrity Back Bone Model from a toilet paper tube and some balloons.

The model represents how the discs in the back create flexibility and shock absorbing between the vertebrae.

Step 1: Making the Vertebrae

Vertebrae are made by cutting 'wavey' rings out of a toilet roll. In each piece there are 3 'peaks and 3 'troughs'.
This is done with a small pair of scissors.

Step 2: Making the Discs

The discs used to go between the vertebrae are made from some ballons.
Cut where the ballon inflated off. Next, cut it into 2 circular discs.
Add a dab of contact glue to the 3 peaks of a cardboard ring. Attach the disc on top to the glue.
Add a dab of contact glue to the troughs of the cardboard ring and glue it to the disc of the previous ring.
Continue with the same process for the other rings.

Step 3: Flexible Backbone

The finished backbone model can be compressed and flexed from side to side.
