Intro: Thai Peanut Sauce Copycat Recipe!

I absolutely adore peanut sauce...
but we normally just buy it in a jar.

But I just learned how to make a great version!

Thai Peanut Sauce...perfect for rice or veggie dip!
It's a delightful blend of sweet, salty and garlic.

STEP 1: Ingredients!

5 simple ingredients:

1 cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
3/4 cup of Soy sauce
1 cup of Agave
4 chopped Garlic cloves
2 cups of Peanuts (or any other nut)
(let's face it, fresh nuts are great...but you could use peanut butter and skip a step!)

You'll need a food processor or blender as well.
(unless you are using peanut butter...then you just need a whisk!)

STEP 2: Blend.

Begin by pulverizing your peanuts.
If you have a blendtec or ninja or another fabulous blender...
you can throw in all the ingredients and blend it smooth.
I used a food processor to get the peanuts as small as I could.
(again, peanut butter)

Then I threw them in a big bowl for the mixing.
Added my oil and soy sauce...
Added the Agave and garlic...I love fresh garlic!

And then I used an immersion hand blender and
creamed them all up together!

Until mostly smooth.
You can go as smooth as you like.
I'm a chunky peanut butter kind of gal.

STEP 3: Enjoy Now and Later!

Serve on rice.
Serve with veggies.
So yummy, and the family loved it too!

I made a large batch and saved some in the fridge.
I also put a bunch in the freezer.
It freezes perfectly and thaws quickly!

Pro tip: if you are using peanut butter, just put everything in a mason jar with lid and shake it vigorously. Use the cup marks on the mason jar, no cleanup or measuring cups required. Mix with a chopstick of it isn't smooth enough.
this sauce can be made with fewer ingredients....just thought I put it out there...I'm Laotian which is almost like being Thai...we're sister countries and most of our foods are the same
This looks delicious! I used to eat in Thailand quite often..I am addicted to it also and haven't made it in ages...when I made it I remember using coconut milk and some thai chili also...not too much though. In Thailand the street vendors will sell this with chicken satay - chicken on a stick :) yum... (and they'd sell you quite a lot for only about 50 cents us) and the Thai people also eat it on toasted bread! :) LOVE IT ALL!
Hi- sounds wonderful. I love it too, so thank you! Just one question: What is the agave for? I'm not familiar with it.
It's a sweetener, like honey, it just comes from agave plants. :) It's natural and doesn't spike insulin levels, so it is better for bodies. I bought that at Sam's club, so I'm guessing it's not too hard to find.
thanks for the instructable. I love sweet peanut sauce, but agave isn't as natural as we are told- - http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/2011/05/why-i-was-wrong-to-recommend-agave-nectar/
Ha ha, just like EVERYTHING we buy at stores...right? :) Thanks!
Very nice, thanks for posting.
looks good. makin' me hungry
Yes it's good! I've eaten it everyday for lunch just like pictured since I made it! :)
I don't have the processor option, so how much peanut butter should I use? Any recommendations for type? Thanks!
I'd just sub in 1 1/2 to the full 2 cups of peanut butter. Any type should work just fine. Our sauce was a little thick, so I wouldn't worry about the peanut butter making it softer. :)
