Introduction: The 5 C's- How to Survive the Wilderness

About: Profile picture is of the Avro Arrow.

The 5 C's are 5 things that, if you are lost, will help you survive until help arrives. It is great for short term survival situations, but for long term, redundancies are more necessary.

Supplies

Knife

Rope

Single walled container

Flint and steel

Tarp

Step 1: Cut

Cut is anything that has a sharp edge and will cut through material. Most people will pack a knife, though some people do bring Hatchets/Axes. A knife is more space efficient and lighter, so it is a better choice.

Step 2: Cordage

Cordage is ranges from threads to paracord, and from parts of your shirt to bungee cords. Cordage is easy because you could rip up your shirt or take out your shoelaces. The best though, is paracord. It's bright colour and durability make it the logical choice for survival situations.

Step 3: Container

Container is anything you can store things in. The best examples can also double as cooking pots. A popular example is a single walled metal water bottle. you will be able to store things in it and boil water with it. If you have a double walled container, heat up rocks from beside the fire and drop them in. With enough rocks, this will boil the water.

Step 4: Combustion

Combustion is anything that can make another thing catch fire. In the area that I live in, there is no naturally occurring flint, so some people pack a flint and steel. But there's a catch. People with glasses can reflect the sun onto a leaf and cause it to catch fire. A magnifying glass will do the same thing, just faster.

Step 5: Cover

Cover is anything that you would use to protect you from the elements. A tarp is lightweight and is very space-efficient. If you know how to build a shelter out of natural materials, go ahead. For a simple tarp shelter, drape the tarp over a low hanging branch of a tree and secure the bottom with rocks.

Now you are ready to survive the Wilderness!
