Introduction: The Light Up Bag With Circuit Playground Express

This is a bag that will light up in different colours. This is designed to be a book bag, but can be turned into anything else.

First, we need to gather all of the supplies. This is;

  • A bag (of any type)
  • A CPX (circuit playground express)
  • A battery holder
  • Three batteries
  • Conductive thread
  • Neo pixels (3 - 12)

Optional;

  • Fabric
  • Ribbon
  • Thread

Step 1: Programming

For this project the programming is very simple. All you have to do is go on Adafruit (the link below) and copy the code in the image above. You can of course change the numbers to change the colours that come out on the CPX.

Step 2: CPX

Sew on the CPX with the VOUT facing towards the straps.

Step 3: Neo Pixels

Now it is time to sew on the Neo pixels. It is important to sew them on with the arrows facing away from the CPX. Also, The VOUT has to connect the positive end. The GND has to connect to the negative end of the Neo pixel. Finally, we have to connect the signal. This is done by sewing with conductive thread. Be sure to stop a stitch once it reaches the Neo pixel and start with a new piece of thread on the other side.

Step 4: Battery Pack

Finally, we have to connect the battery pack. If the bag is of good size this is easy. All you have to do is cut a hole in the top of the bag, just above the CPX. Then, just pull the wire through the hole, and connect to the CPX.

Step 5: Optional

This is an optional step, as it is not necessary to have this for the bag to work. For this, sew a piece of fabric just to spice up the design. You can sew this with a running stitch or a sewing machine. You can also add a bow.
