Introduction: The Mechanical Bugs

I have always been fascinated that what could be created by using the single motor. Here are few quirky bugs that craws, hope and even sprint based on the legs you give them

Supplies

  1. 3D printer (or cut from strong cardboard)
  2. BO motor - 200 rpm
  3. A switch
  4. 18650 batter
  5. 18650 battery holder

Step 1: The Crawlers

Crawling is where both the legs/wheels are not in phase . to keep things simple lets keep them 180 from each others.

  1. Print the given stl file
  2. Use hot-glue to fix battery on motor and connect it using the quick connector
  3. Connect the crawlers
  4. have fun

Food for Thought - spring attachment Vs Crawler -which one gives you better speed and movement and why

Step 2: The Hoppers

Nothing changes from crawling to hoping you need the same 3D printed parts as in step -1

  1. Take the 3D printed parts instep one
  2. Fix the legs in same phase .
  3. Connect the battery and motor
  4. Have fun

Food for thought - Does hoping in faster than crawling

Step 3: The Sprinting

Now this is gorilla seems really fast.

  1. Print the below Stl files
  2. Add some foam at the end to reduce sound and slip if required
  3. Higher the dia of the attachment, more the speed
  4. if you keep increasing the dia after sometime you need to place a tail and some weight to avoid motor turning b/w wheels

Food for Thought - Why sprinting is faster then crawling and hopping and why do we need tyres if the current legs are fast enough
